Why is everybody talking about a mirrored jem instead of a chrome jem? What should we be expecting? A Jem that has a pseudo chrome in the face and is black in the back? Another kind of mirrored finish?

I woulnt like the dots as inlays (off set dots wouldn be that bad though)..... but leds would suck even more than plain dots; i know they may be cool for a show at night, but I d rather leave that kind of stuff for big shows and celebrties that can affor that kind of aesthethical transgression. Imagine if Gibson released a Les Paul with fireworks ala Ace Frehley back in the 70s...... horrendous idea! Anyway it is SO unlikely that Im not really worried.

I would like to see an ebony or maple freatboard on any of these.
The guitar will look like this:

Black finish with a mirror top and white/pearl binding.

Its not bad. it has a mirrored pickguard, wich i dont like that much (i would ve prefered a backrouted guitar with a clear pickguard over it).

I dont think the rpoduction model will have leds, and I really hope it doesnt. Pearloid piramids over an ebony fingerboard will fit the guitar better. The ebony board is unlilely to say the least.

I really dont expect the guitar to be exactly like the one steve has.

Does anyone know if the production Bad Horsies will have a Sustainer driver in the neck (like Steve's)? That's another cool feature that would certainly sell guitars.

Spencer

Seems like a very remote possibility (too early to call either way - i'd wager heavily it has two DiMarzio humbuckers)... glen

well yeah, if Steve said that he's working with DiMarzio on some new pickups. Unless of course, the new pickups include a sustainer. To tell you the truth, I wouldn't want a sustainer on my guitar. I just want to keep it simple with two humbuckers and a single coil. Although I'd agree that the best looking inlays for this would be on an ebony fretboard (though I think we all know it's probably going to be rosewood) and either be a chrome or white vine or chrome or white pyramids. To tell you the truth, I'd rather see pyramids...but no screwhead inlays, that would suck. Heck, I'd be satisfied with plain dots if there was a choice between screwhead and plain. I just want the stupid thing to come out already and put and end to all this stupid guessing! Who knows, by then I may have enough money to get one .

one more thing...new designed pickups, all the trouble with the mirror finish, and pearloid binding...I'm guessing it's going to replace the VSBL, not the DBK. If it hasn't been selling, they'll probably just discontinue the DBK and come up with another budget Jem. But the Bad Horsie ain't going to be a cheap axe, that's for sure.

I don't think the production model will have binding.
Imagine 7DBK with different finish (matte black) reflective surface stuck on top and maybe different pickups.
Everything else - the same as the DBK.
This IS the new 7DBK.

I really don't think they should discontinue the DBK. I mean it's the stop-gap for the guitarists who want a JEM but don't want a 555 and cannot possibly afford a 7v.

I really wish Ibanez would listen to their customers, i mean the first thing people would change about the DBK would be the screw head inlays for sure and then possibly change the finish, the Jem90th finish would be awesome thank you very much

I think the Bad Horsie Jem is going to be another high end model, it may even come in more than the 7v range i think, i'd take a 7vsbl or a 7vwh over one any day though, much more interesting.

I wish they'd bring back Ebony tbh

It's always baffled me why they don't have any other flat-coloured Jems aside from the VWH these days. Why all these fabric, sparkly, burned or blistery finishes? Why not make a production model of that Jewel Blue Jem with the black pickguard and maple neck which Steve was shown with in the Guitar World interview at the time of Alien Love Secrets - or any other colour for that matter - and price it between an RG1550 and DBK?

Having said that, I plan to gobble up a Bad Horsie Jem like christmas dinner.

Wasn't that a prototype BSB?

I think that the best alternative to the LED fret markers, would be to use simple glow-the-dark inlays. Cheap, easy, and you'd end up with the same basic effect, on a dark stage.

I think mirror/chrome dots would be cool, maybe offset. Pyramids would be even better if it's going to be in the high end price range.

The fact that is going to be a budget or high end jem doesnt determine the kind of inlays its going to have (the BSB had screw heads and was more expensive than the 777DY wich had piramids, and about the same than a FP). Probably a low budjet jem will have dot inlays because it will be marketed as a low budget jem, and you want people to keep buying the higher priced models. IT will also depend on what the rest of te line up is going to be, and how the fixed bridge jem is going to be priced.

Really, putting pearloid piramid inlays doesnt increase the cost of making the guitar. Besides it has been so long since a jem with piramid inlays was released, that it would be a natural choice.

I really dislike the pearloid binding. I dont think the binging fits in that kind of finish. The mirrored or chrome look is a very modern look, and the binding is generally associated with a more vintage look.

IMO, the binding is a nice way to break from the mirror top to the painted sides. I kinda like the pearloid myself.

If the Jem7BH looks anything like the original pictured above, expect to see my VSBL for sale next March or April.

I wondered that too when I remembered that pic a few months ago, so I got out the issue and it doesn't look like the BSB. I wish I had the magazine here (it's at mum and dad's with about 100000 other guitar magazines in my old bedroom) to double check... either way my point about colours stands.
