5-string Jem? - It could happen!

With all this 7-string madness how does a company compete? How about a 5-string model?!?!
I kid you not...check it out at:

If Shecter does this can our precious Jem be far behind?
Ohhh! Nooo!

5-string Jem?

Why in the h#ll would you want a 5 string guitar?! *My thought would be the next evolution would be an 8 string guitar!!!! *Low B and a high A.
5 strings would be very limiting I think but that's just my $.02

We've done this before and I'm telling you, it's coming: the Keith Richards Signature - presenting the JEM 5DRS (drugged rolling stone :-)

5-string Jem?

yup, on a good night (or bad?) I've even had a 4 or 5 string UV in the same song.
Keith Richards signature Jem?!!?!!?!!
Would that involve a swirl with Keiths blood and heroin?
hehe

5-string Jem?

Some of y'all need to open up your minds a little bit...

As the one HC review said, you get all the notes from a 7-string guitar, with 2 exceptions -- there are two lower notes (A & Bb) and you're missing the three highest notes... *

It's all laid out a bit differently than we're used to, but having played cello for 12 or so years, I can tell you - tuning in 5ths is both heavy as all get out and conducive to very different patterns and melodies than you're traditionally familiar with on a guitar tuned in 4ths.

5-string Jem?

Yep, absolutely right. Playing a guitar tuned in fifths requires re-thinking of playing habits. But it's a good training to search notes rather than try to speed up in memorized patterns. I used to play mandolin some 30 years ago and I still do it every now and then. So I'm familiar with an instrument tuned in fifths.

Does anyone remember those guys (cello quartet) from Finland who played Metallica songs and had recorded two albums. In an interview one of them said, playing quarts on an in fifths tuned instrument all the time gave him a lot of pain. So I don't think that one could always play the used chord structures on such a guitar. However it can be a fresh approach in playing melodies or in writing totaly different riffs.

Just some thoughts... have fun!
