7 string active pickups for uv7bk

Im thinking of trying to find a pickguard or buy a new one and have it made so it fits some EMG 707 pickups on my 7 string guitar universe. Or maybe if i could find some active pickups that would fit the pickguard already, but as of yet ive not been able to find any via the web. Have any of you universe guys out their in jem/universe land managed that modification.

I don't think you can put 707s in a pickgaurd, you'd have to go 81 7s. You could try it tho.

I'm sure the 81-7s are in the exact same housing as the 707s.

The pickguard isn't really the issue anyway, you could get a custom pickguard that would work, though it might be expensive. But the pickups would have to be mounted to the body rather than the guard and there will probably be the usual routing required to accomodate the larger housing of the EMG 7-string pickups.

You could also try the new Dimarzio Deactivator 7's, they make a bridge and neck version. They are supposed to be the passive equivalent to active (read EMG) pickups.

Apart from the non-fitting issue, be also aware that the 707 can't be tapped, so you won't be able to get any sort of split-5 wiring. This will seriously limit tonal possibilities.

Can I split the coils in my EMG-85?
No. With the exception of our pickups that have dual outputs, our active pickups only have 3 wires. As a result, coil splitting/tapping is not an option.
Furthermore, there is no 'single coil' EMG7

Do you make a 7 string single coil guitar pickup?
No, we do not. The only 7 string pickups made at this time are humbuckers;
So you would have to get a new pickguard, that can hold 2 EMGs , which would eliminate the problem of having a gaping hole where the Blaze single used to be
