77 FP made in USA???
Hi everyone,
A friend of mine has a 77 fp made in the USA, is that possible? The serialnumber starts with 89and then another 4numbers ofcourse. He thinks that the JEm is about 2 years old.
Does anyone know?

In a word, no. FPs weren't made in the USA.

Re: 77 FP made in USA???
Thanks for your reply. Because you are very known with the Jems, maybe you can tell me where I can check /trace serialnumbers. Once I saw it at a site, unfortunatelly I forgot at what site it was, Do you know? If not can you help me with this number: 89 17 14 Thanks

Re: 77 FP made in USA???
If the serial number on the neckplate is 89XXXX, the Jem was made sometime around 1989, and it was made in Japan (as all Jems were).

Re: 77 FP made in USA???
Judging by the discoloration in the pick-ups, i believe that the serial number correctly places it in 89 or 90 and and not one of the recent re-issues.

Re: 77 FP made in USA???
Fender868 Can you tell me IF the JEM is Original or Fake? If the building year is 89 then this 77 FP looks to new I would say.

Re: 77 FP made in USA???
From the tiny second picture it has the square
neck joint
... Did the reissues come with AANJ? I'm not sure myself but it may narrow it down a bit.

There are many old guitars round here that look brand new. Many of these guitars are cherished and well looked after

From what i see, it looks authentic. Besides, with the sheer number of these on the market and the fact that they would be quite difficult to replicate and would not exactly be worth it in the end anyways; i think it's real. It was built in 89 or 90. The plate says 89, but some of them were thrown onto some guitars built in 1990 anyways. Either way, no biggie.
The re-issues did not have an AANJ. It had occured to me as well, and that alone almost made me buy one, but i discovered that they were square heels. I don't mind square heels, but why buy a re-issue of a guitars whose production had only been halted a few years if it isn't going to have any new features ? Might as well buy an original i say.
