Added A 7 String To The Family

I've spent some money since the announcement of the 20th RG550's. It's been a downhill battle every since. I've been interested in getting a 7 string lately and didn't know exactly what I wanted to do.

I started looking at the cheaper ones like the 7620 or the Vampire Kiss model, and also the Universes. I've seen several on e.B.a.y. but they've all got some sort of damage or blemishes. I want to get one that's new.

Then I ran across this guy selling two UV777PBK. Now, I'm not big on black guitars. Actually, I swore I'd never buy one. Plus, this one has a HUGE Vai mark just below the bridge with the pyramid and the all seeing eye. The one that I really wanted someone snatched up. It was the same model, but 2006 make with the Edge Pro 7 trem. I've got a 2570 with that trem and I like it fine. Nothing quite compares to the original Edge, in my opinion, but I like the Edge Pro just fine.

The one that was left was a 2000 make that has the Lo Pro Edge in it. I waited a few days really thinking hard whether or not I wanted to put in an offer. Someone else put an offer in, but got denied. This guy's two guitars had already been up before, but nobody broke past the Reserve, and his Buy It Now price was $1700. This time he put them up with a Buy It Now option of $1600 (actually $1599), or Make An Offer. So Friday I just couldn't stand it any longer and sent the guy an offer. I thought it was low-balling it just a bit, but it wasn't insultingly low. Granted, these things have been babied with not a scratch or blemish anywhere on them. Aside from it being a 2000 make it could sale for brand new. Luckily I didn't have to pay a brand new price.

The guy accepted my offer at $1400 which includes the case. I was surprised. I was expecting it to get denied. Say the case is going to run at least $100, so really I got the guitar for $1300, which the research that I found is a really good fair price for this guitar. That's not bad at all for a Universe to be 7 years old and looking like it was just sent from the factory.

Here's some pics for you to look at. I absolutely can't wait to get it. I normally don't bother bidding if the seller has a low feedback count - this guy had 5 at the time. I look now and he's got 6, the newest feedback being from the person that bought the 2006 make from him. He's happy with it, so I'm thinking going to be a happy camper as well.

The only thing that will get money out of my pocket now will be a real Ibanez swirl of some kind or a DNA. I could really go for a bright multi-colored 7 string swirl. But until then there's this one.....

Umm, isn't a DNA a real Ibanez swirl??

Congratz on the UV, looks like it is in beautiful shape.

Well, yea, it is, but any other model with a swirl would be ok too.

You know, originally I never cared for this guitar. I thought that the huge pyramid below the trem was just gawdy, and I've never cared for black guitars to begin with. I'm also not really into signature models. At the the Universe and Jems don't have Vai written on them somewhere. But the more I looked at this guitar the more I really wanted it.

I've never played one of these before. I hope I like it. I mean, I'm sure I will. The Universe is probably in the very top of all 7 strings, but having not played it before I feel like I'm taking a bit of a risk. I figure if it turns out not to be the guitar for me I could always sell it again and get very close to what I paid for it.

Re: Added A 7 String To The Family

Even if black is sort of dull compared to the other UV's, IMHO this is the best playing one by far, so enjoy it!

PS: 1400 doesn't seem a spectacular offer, with a little patience you could have bought it for 1200 or even less.

True, but that guitar looks to be in great condition. I got mine for $1100, and while in very good condition, the pickguard still had some scratches as well as the paint, etc.

From the pictures, her guitar looks spotless.

$1400 that works out at around £700, I wish I could find a UV in that condition for that price here in the UK. Congratz on the UV.

Re: Added A 7 String To The Family

Why didn't you get a 1527? You could have gotten one new, for less money. And it isn't black.

Well, what do you think of this RG2005? It's available now.

I made that mistake once, when I bought my Ibanez S470IB. I never played it, before I bought it. Although I don't regret having bought it, I don't like the neck profile. It's U-shaped, which I don't really like.

Re: Added A 7 String To The Family

The RG20051 is not exactly a "bright swirl" and is only a 6 string

Congratz on the UV courtney Hope it lives up to expectations!!
