Advice on buying a JEM 7VWH

If you guys could get a 1999 JEM 7VWH or a 2006 JEM 7VWH, both mint condition for the exact same price, which one is the better option?

Bearing in mind the pros and cons for each i.e. 99's had ebony, new ones are Team J. Craft and have rosewood and double reinforced necks, etc.

Please advise. I'm getting closer and closer to my first JEM purchase!

Ebony and Lo Pro vs Rosewood and Edge Pro!

I had the same choice to make,

I love my 1997 Ibanez 7VWH

Team J craft means bugger all, basically all Jems bar the 555 are 'team j craft', as all that stands for is made in japan.

Thanks, guys! What year did they switch from Basswood to Alder? I'm not a fan of the sound of Baswood, nor the sound of Evolutions really, but the combo is way too harsh in my opinion. The Evo's in Alder sound okay.

The VWH came out in 93' and has ALWAYS been Alder w/EVO's.

I'd go for the EBONY / LO-Pro!!

LOVE that EBONY

I love my '05 vwh to death. The rosewood really sounds AND looks nice too. And the edge pro? It's just an awesome trem and works just as fine as a lo-pro.

Most people on this forum seems to prefer the old version of ebony and lo-pro.

Im not a Jem guy, but double reinforced neck, and 7 years newer for the same price? Not a very hard decision.

Check the serial number before you buy. It should start with letter "F"

Re: Advice on buying a JEM 7VWH

I dont get it about ebony. Somehow i cant go near a guitar with an ebony fretboard. Like i played an Alexi Laiho sig that had an ebony fretboard, and i couldnt play like i normally would. but when i picked up the BRMR, which has a rosewood fretboard. I played a whole bunch better.

Does the fretboard have any effect on playing?? like i dont really push so hard im touching the wood. it might have been that the Alexi laiho sig was a lot worse than the BRMR.. mmmm, i love my JEM.

uh...I have guitars in ebony, rosewood and maple and the only thing that's different for me is the sound. It shouldn't affect your playing at all.

Re: Advice on buying a JEM 7VWH

I have never noticed any huge differences, but actually one of the best guitars I ever played was a Vigier. This was a LONG time ago, probably 1986, and this thing had an ebony fretboard and an incredible carbon fibre neck. Blew away any JEM I've ever played, no contest, and I seemed to be able to play like a total demon on that thing. BEAST of a guitar. If only I had bought it. It was £400 used, and I have never seen one since. I bet it'd be worth tons now. I should not have left the shop without it, I have always kicked myself for doing so.

Rosewood Vs Ebony is 95% a visual difference. This is another topic that has been beaten into the ground. I'd put money on a blind test with 10 guitars 5 Ebony and 5 Rosewood no one would even get 1/2 right just going by sound.

Read my post again. One of the best guitars I ever played was a Vigier. I haven't seen that particular model again because it hasn't been made for so long.
