ADVICE ON REPLACEMENT NECK FOR MY JEM777SK, PLEASE!
So I have a 1989 jem777sk. The guitar has been extremely
altered and the neck has been damaged beyond repair.
I want to replace the neck but because of the shape of
the guitar, I'm not concerned with keeping anything original.
My question for everyone is should I buy a jem neck, from
rich or somebody, which can be pricey and hard to find or
should I buy a replacement neck from C
Woods
or
ET guitars
.
I recently bought a 1992 MIJ RG 570 neck for 100 off the bay
but it plays worse then the damaged neck. I just want to have
the guitar play and feel the way it used to. Nice low action,
with no buzzing and now tuning problems. The replacement
necks from woods and ET look great and not to expensive but
I've read horror stories on the forum. Necks taking up to 1 year
to be done and then not fitting. I don't want to wait forever for
a neck and then have it not play good or fit right.
Has anybody bought a replacement next for their jem from
one of these guys and had it play great. I would greatly
appreciate any advice or help cuz i miss my guitar.

Only you can tell how much money it is worth to put into the guitar.
But the Jem
neck
isn't a RG550 neck, so it will cost you to get the same feel as the Jem neck did.
If the SK body has a lot of nicks dents or scars, it will never be a collectable guitar either.
Bottom line; only you know, and I'm sorry I can't help, but I hate to hear when Jems go down in the drain.

Re: ADVICE ON REPLACEMENT NECK FOR MY JEM777SK, PLEASE!
thanks for the advice. I'm not interested in making it a collectors
guitar or restoring it. I just want to find a neck that plays like the
original. Although money is issue I'm willing to spend up to 500.
I just don't know if I should have one made new or take another
chance and buy a used neck again. Obivously a jem this time.

Well i got a jem FP neck for sale on the bay, cant post what item number (against the rules), but less than 10 hours to go. Its a brand new Jem replacement neck. It already has a few bids and is past the $700 mark, so it may not be for you, but it is the real deal...

Thats your LP neck on the bay! I would recomend ET his work that ive seen is great. You could always keep an eye on the bay for a wiz 1 neck, The Jem necks that come up on the bay are really pricey and i think the money for the neck is better put into a 550 with a wiz 1 neck but thats my opinon each to there own! Good luck.

Re: ADVICE ON REPLACEMENT NECK FOR MY JEM777SK, PLEASE!
I currently have my DY rg550 neck at Et guitars getting the pyramid inlays done, so I am expecting a great job from et...
Lets do the math... Inlay work and new fingerboard cost $270 plus the actual wizard neck itself with the DY headstock. I reckon approximatly worth around $400 to $500
a Brand new Jem replacment neck, should cost around $700 to $800, considering a new Jem from the 80's in brand new condition will be around $2500 to $3500
And we are talkin about a square
heel neck
joint, even harder to find then the
Jem vwh
, which costs around $800 to 1K to buy brand new... and they arent as rare as a Jem FP with the green vine inlays etc...
I dont think its pricey at all..... Personally I like Wizard necks over Jem necks, but having one made and having the original is personal preference..
eitherway mine will sell because its only worth what its worth to the buyer...and it seems a few people want it. for that price
good luck. I'll post a thread on my neck from Et guitars when its done

Considerring how many new FP necks I sold for $550 and under [and how many more balked even at that price], the price is rediculous. But will take note and raise mine of course.

Well, do you currently have any for sale ? Mine is the only one on 3bay, and probably not to many left I would say, so I reckon its about right .... and would be the main reason its selling for that price...
But again, im no expert.... Just want what I feel the neck is worth to me, to sell. Any less and id rather keep it..

Re: ADVICE ON REPLACEMENT NECK FOR MY JEM777SK, PLEASE!
Lets be real, you paid a dealer $350 for it. That would have been a little light, but twice that [or the $1000 you listed it for?]. I just sold one with a fret that the end poped up on [sold it to a tech] for $450.
It's an FP neck, the head has to be redone to use it with anything else and have it fit in. It's not like a GMC neck that has a black head you can put on anything, more versatility, more money.

Thomas,
What exactly is wrong with the stock neck? Can you give us some details or pictures?

For Australia its not dear, considering a new jem is 5k over here. I completly agree if people will pay $700 then its worth $700, but personly I wouldnt pay that for a Jem neck. (Poor bastards who dont know of ET
)

Re: ADVICE ON REPLACEMENT NECK FOR MY JEM777SK, PLEASE!
Lets be even more real Rich.
I spent Closer to $400, and I had to pay for the trip to Thailand and the shop would not let me buy the neck unless I purchased a Guitar first....also got charged for 7kg over weight....
So I went through quite alot of trouble to get that neck, and I reckon as far as Australian prices are concerned, its right on par. $4000 for a new jem so $750 is about right for the neck. Maybe not for the USA or You, but in AUS its fine..
ill wait till I get paid from the 3bayer... before im happy about the sale

Re: ADVICE ON REPLACEMENT NECK FOR MY JEM777SK, PLEASE!
You're the one that posted $350AU
http://www.jemsite.com/forums/f15/qu...ht=fp+neck+new
You were there to buy a guitar anyway.
The neck weighs 1 pound.
I thought a new VWH was $3200 there? Some customer just told me that anyway.
Either way, makes no difference to me, but $1000 for an FP neck? I thought you lost your mind. People were talking smack when I'd ask that for a PMC neck.

Retail on a VWH is $4,995 here (That's $US4,337 at today's exchange rate), and you'd be surprised at how many people end up paying retail for musical instruments here because it didn't occur to them to ask "Is that the best you can do?"

Sorry, I don't have any pics. I bought the guitar from somebody more than ten years ago and the kid really did a job on the hole guitar including the neck. I won't list everything thats been done cuz most is cosmetic but the problem i having is this. the heel of the neck was sanded down and it look like another piece of thin wood was glued
to the bottom. about 1/32 of an inch thick. probably not flat cuz in order to get it not to
buz there are shims under the
lock nut
and under the neck heel. the action is really high
towards the heel and almost buzzes at the nut. I don't care about restoring the guitar, I
just want a replacement neck that will fit and play great. I'll probably give up on buying
a jem neck cuz they look expensive and rare. I'm just looking for advice on who is the
best to build me a replacement neck, that will play great, not take forever to get and wont cost more than 4 or 5 hundred. ET guitars looks great. has anybody bought a neck
from them?
