Alright...I'll keep the UV, but...... - (this is mostly goin

After my three-gig test period this week, I've decided to keep this UV777Bk we've been discussing.

Here's what I plan to have done, now that I'm committting to it:

First I'm going to have it set up (by a luthier, per jemsite recommendations) with 10s. *I've been thinking about 'lightening up' from 11s to 10s anyway. *Since there are no stock 7-string sets of .11s I'll just go with the 10s. *The 09s are too whimpy for me (sorry). *Also taking into account Gregory's post in this decision - that the guitar sits better with 10s

Second, I want to change the middle pickup - absolutely.
Forgive me if this thread is on the wrong board or if it's been discussed a thousand times before - I couldn't find it anywhere.

I play a lot of neck/middle position clean sound - a lot of R & B funk stuff, so i need that hot/punchy sound. *The Blaze just doesn't deliver that. *I love the sound I get out of the Texas special in my RG-550, and the way it combo's with the PAF pro in my neck position. **Anything comparable to that in a 7-string p'up?

What are my options here for a single coil or stacked-hum for a 7? *

I'd like to hear personal prefs, but I'll be happy even if you just give me some names so I can research on the H-C website.

Thanks!
~Kenny

I have a UV777BK as well. Changing the pickups was a -must-. The stockers leave much to be desired.

I put a Tone Zone 7 in the bridge and a PAF 7 in the neck. I haven't changed the single yet, although I do play on it a lot, because the PAF 7 split with it really seemed to punch up the middle pickup.

I'm not sure if Dimarzio makes anything other then the Blaze in a 7, if they do, I'd probably go for the HS-3.

Interesting idea...I have a PAF in the neck of my RG and I love it. *DiMarzio does make a PAF-7

I have an e-mail query in to DimArzio as to their plans for 7-string single p'ups.

I heard that Fender is coming out with a line of 7 stingers. *I'm hoping that with that line will come 7 string single replacement strat p'ups. * I'll be the first one on line. *

Seymour Duncan will make almost any of their pickups in a seven-string version through their custom shop. That includes their compact humbuckers like the JB Jr.

Find more information here.

Everyone seems to be at Winter NAMM this week.
I'll give them a call tho - I can't see spending that much on a single though, if that's still their price.

I don't have any experience with Duncans. *Which of their models would give me that tight/hot/punchy/funky sound?
