Best Vai song to demonstrate a UV777P?

Hi all,

Not sure if Vai's actually used this guitar in a recorded song, but could you direct me to a song on one of his albums that allows me to hear what this guitar sounds like? I really want to get one, but I want to be sure of the sound of it first. I'm sure it sounds great, but I wanted to know if the sound of it will suit my needs.

He's used it extensively on Passion And Warfare, if I'm not mistaken.

UV777P, introduced 1997

PAW, released 1990

PAW used earlier universes.

Trepan if you can find a UV777 anywhere then it'd be best if you actually tried playing it.

Soundwise, even a Korn signature K7 would be similar as i believe they use the same pickups (PAFs?) and the body is also basswood like the UV, the neck profile will be different though.

The K7 in Mahogany, with PAF7s, the Universe is Basswood, with Blaze 2s, so there will be quite a difference in sound.

But you are right, best thing is to go and try one.

Do you care if it's Mr. Vai actually playing the instrument? or will any ole average Jemsiter do? I have plenty of stuff i've recorded on mine...

If you wanted me to play some Vai on it and record it, i'm willing to do that too.

Come to think of it, I've replaced all my pickups, so maybe that wouldn't be a good gague. But I'm sure there are others here who have recorded stuff with a stock Uv-P.

If you want UV sounds not sooooo processed (as Vai's) check out Dream Theater from Awake till 5 years in a live time....

I don't think Vai has done anything lately on a 7 string. PAW was not recorded using a uv777bk. It was recorded using, I quote, "Three Ibanez 7-string Guitars - Black, White, and Psycho-colored"; psycho colored of course refers to the MCs.

My best guess would be to go get the ibanez 7string video and listen to the demo of vai playing it. But then again it's no use listening to him play it. It's your hands, your fingers, your phrasing, and lastly your gear.

I don't think any of us can easily sound like Vai.

But yeah I get what you mean, it would be nice to hear some sort of sound sample to judge the guitar. But your best bet would be to go try the guitar for yourself. If you want I could record something for you, but then again it's through my set up, it's going to sound different through your's.

Vai does still use 7 strings. He used them on the new album plus he also used a 7 string acoustic too.

Yes he does use 7 strings.

Seen him live with them though? See any UV777PBKs there?

A UV777PBK was featured in the liner notes of the ultra zone, but I doubt he actually played one on the CD.
