Re: Blasphemy, I know- but a question anyways

In all honesty, that's going to ugly, not cost-effective (versus following others' advice to get a custom body), and a waste of a perfectly good high-end guitar.

If your reasons are for having something unique and individualistic, well, how more individualized would a custom body be? You can get a body made with whatever wood and finish you want, and you can use the hardware and electronics that you want. Compared to buying a UV, chopping it up, refinishing it, converting the trem (and getting it set up), rerouting a new control cavity and output socket, etc., getting a custom body made doesn't sound that financially prohibitive AND it makes so much more sense.

+1 for the left-handed learning right-handed. I was in the same boat and I'm damn glad I didn't learn left handed.

I think it's a player-axe, not a collectors. If you need to do it to play it to your liking, then you need to do it to play it... there is not really much way around that. Just do a good job or have someone do it who will do a good job or else you will really regret it.

I guess most things are not made for lefties. I play right handed, but being left handed I completely understand what you have to go through

I never suggested it was a collector...

it would be much better to just buy the universe, take the neck and other parts you need, and have a body made for you and slap it all back together. There are plenty of luthers out there than can do this and the quality will be just as good if not better than a stock Universe. Plus you can customize your wood and finnish.
