Buzz Feiten
Has anyone tried this (
Buzz Feiten Tuning System
) on a Jem yet? Does it work with a
locking nut
? Steve seems to think very highly of the system, so I would guess so, wondering if anyone here has done it yet and how it sounds...

Re: Buzz Feiten
It works very well, I had a Washburn CS780 which had a JS1000 body on it! The system is good, for the first time I could play D in the second position and all the notes sounded in tune!
Other than that harmonics are more in tune, but setting intonation is tricky I mean the machineheads are 18:1 ratios!

setting intonation has nothing to do with machine-heads ratio...

18 winds of the tuning key = 1 turn of the tuning peg.

Re: Buzz Feiten
What ^he^ said. I wanna try out those steinberger gearless tuners that are 40:1, just for the accuracy...that and they're the only
locking tuners
I haven't tried.

Tuner ratios
You can't directly compare the 18:1 and 40 to 1 ratios.
Regular worm gear tuners pull the string 1 wrap of the turning post (the post diameter x 3.1415) which is less than an inch.
The Steinberger tuners use a 40 TPI (threads per inch) thread to pull the string down into a rounded-edged well. Each turn of the tuner equals .025 inches of string travel. Since one tuner post wrap (on regular tuners) is not one inch, the direct comparison between these different tuners doesn't work.
If the tuner post is .200" diameter the calculation would be (neglecting the string diameter) .200 x 3.1415 = .6283" (length of string per wrap) divided by 18 (the gear ratio) = .0349" string travel per turn of the tuning key.
The comparison of 18:1 & 40:1 implies finer tuning resolution by factor of 2.222.
When in fact in the above example,
The comparison is .025" to .0349" (a factor of 1.396).
Hope that helps.
