Re: Changing strings often??
I have a friend who ruins strings in a day. Whenever he uses one of my guitars I have to change the strings, I guess he has very acidic sweat. He won't buy a nice guitar because of it.

I loved them. I have
very
acidic fingers and most strings blacken within a week of playing, but when I tried the DR Blues 10's, they lasted like 5+ months, longest I've ever experienced, even Elixirs only lasted me like 3 weeks. The downside is if your any type of an aggressive picker, all the color rubs off where you pick, and it looks like total ass.

Re: Changing strings often??
I changed them only when my guitars are being set up, I rarely changed the whole set unless I break the D,A or Low E. (and it happens sometimes...um...I like bending... a lot!!!)

Re: Changing strings often??
Elixirs are the answer, but make sure you get the ones with anti-rust unwound strings

Re: Changing strings often??
I change my strings as little as I have to... basically when I can see rust on them just cause I'm lazy, but it does sound better if you change them every couple weeks after moderate play.

I do that too! Everyone thinks I'm so anal retentive about my guitar neck and strings, but I just hate when there's a film of crap on my strings or fretboard.

Re: Changing strings often??
Always change them all right before you play a gig-
even if they look clean, the metal fatigues from the whammy bar and you don't want to chance breaking one in the "Perfect Solo" right when you have "Guitar-Face" going. :^)
I saw this guy with a Jackson V at a bar - he was WAILIN' to Crazy Train and totally into the middle solo (band sounded pretty good!) but then he dive-bombed and broke his B, which made the whole guitar go out of tune and it really blew the moment. Plus he looked like a dork trying to gracefully end the tune. It's amazing how you can go from "Guitar-God" to "OHHH-GOD" in an instant!

Once every 2 ~ 3 months. They end costing a lot!

Re: Changing strings often??
I need to change mine about once a month...thinking of switching to coated strings on my PGM since I'm not likely to snap them. The RG550, on the other hand...I'm not spending £10 on a set of strings that I'm certain to snap before too long after a bit of excessive whammy bar usage.

Re: Changing strings often??
I wash my hands before I play my guitars and I wipe the strings off after I'm done. It even says to wipe the strings off in the Ibanez owner's manual I believe. It really does make the strings last a lot longer.
