Charvel USA neck in comparison to a Jem 7V neck?

Hey everyone,

Can anyone give me a comparison of these two necks - Charvel USA (new models) Vs a Jem 7V neck...

I'm a jem player and have been getting GAS for a new Charvel... Any info or general info wouls be much appreciated!

Thanks!

The new Charvels have great necks.

I have played a few. Some feel like strats (nothing wrong with that) some fell like 80's US made necks, for example Kramer.

The Charvel neck is deeper and the shoulders are wider. Another way to explain is to think of the shape of a speedboat coming toward you with a flat bottom and short sides- that's the Jem neckshape.

Then think of a tugboat coming at you- with a rounded bottom and tall sides- that's the charvel neck shape.

Both cut through the water very well, but also very differently.

Hope my analogy works for you.

Thanks for the great info! Do you there there would much of a transition going from a Jem neck to a Charvel USA Production Model neck during a set? I'm considering getting a Charvel as a backup to my Jem for gigs...

I switch between guitars all the time when I am practicing and I never have an issue. I would say that there aren't many techniques that you really need a specific neck shape to pull off, but if you are used to only one kind of neck I could see your concern.

Find a shop with one of each (or something similar) and try it.

I played a couple yesterday at PJ's guitar centre in Portsmouth UK.

They really are good. I find them more comfortable than a jem neck.

Re: Charvel USA neck in comparison to a Jem 7V neck?

I picked up the blue one a few months ago. I agree it's a little more like a fender american standard c shape. They are really nice necks. Unfinished, quartersawn and smooth. I find the edge trem more controllable than the floyd.

Often I feel the jem neck is to wide and thin with string spacing too wide. I've got fairly large hands and small fingers. If you're like me and often want a small change to narrower and slightly fatter front to back the charvel is the ticket.

I've coil tapped the duncans with the pull pot switch. I highly recommend this mod.
