Question

Choose between these 2 Ibanez...

Hello all!
Im new here to jemsite, so hello to all. but I wanted to ask my Ibanez extended family what they think I should do..or what you would do...

Im being offered this Brand new RG 3550MZ in roadstar orange metallic
for trade even up for my 91 JEM 777 VBK . I tried to post links for pix, but Im not allowed yet because Im still a nOOb member

But, is there new Prestige line most def made in Japan now adays? Im just worried about the quality of there new line. I saw its loaded with Dimarzio right off the bat, and there neck profile "super wizard" is identical to the old RG550 necks. So...what do you think, and THANK YOU for your help and advice in advance.

If you get a chance check out some of my tracks from a few of my CD's at myspace.com/rodgerdeering

You have to try the guitar in question against your JEM.

I'd personlly not make the swap myself, but you might feel like it's time for a change.

DONT DO IT. I've had a prestige 2550z, very disapointing. I've had a 777vbk and was an awsome guitar. You're mad if you swap, prestige are rubbish (just my view). Outside of jems I'd only bother with j-custom.

how are prestige's rubbish...? there's nothing wrong with a 2550z, they're amazing guitars. j customs are not very far off prestige's in quality anyway.

I think if you can't decide with playability and sound, bring the cool/wow factor into the deal:

"I've got a rg3550mz!" "What's that?" Says the layman.

"I've go this guitar with a handle! Steve Vai uses these!" Awesome it's got green on it! EXCLAIMED the layman.

I'm sorry, I'm not trying to offend anyone but... what are GIO then? wood spares shaped like a guitar?
How can someone deny the good construction and materials used in prestige guitars? I have two prestige, and I also played a lot with the Jem7vwh that my mate has. The difference? well the clarity of the wood... only, everything else is just like the prestige models.
Just because someone likes the guitars, and Steve vai uses them, it doesn't mean that they are the best in the line and everything else is crap...

Edit: Insult removed by jono? It wasn't my intention... but I don't know where I insulted anyone...

Re: Choose between these 2 Ibanez...

Hi all and good morning...
First off thank you for your input. I guess I should mention I collect up Ibanez guitars. I got a few JEM's already and a bunch of old RG's. So my logic was, why not try something new, since I have a few JEM's already. It would be nice to get a fresh spankin' 2009 Ibanez. Ya'know what I mean? I guess a good metaphor would be, if you collect old corvettes, and someone will give you a brand new one for one of your older ones (which you already have a few of) why not try a change? Right?

But, the thing is there is no RG 3550MZ locally where I live to check them out. Im doing this deal out of state. But my concerns are the workmanship. I heard all new 2009 Ibanez Prestige are made back in Japan. And the necks are noted as "Super Wizards", which are based off the 1987 wizard neck. I had a blinding rock mirrir JEM and I offed that because of the feel of the neck. But thank you again for your guys input. Have a great sunday!

Re: Choose between these 2 Ibanez...

If you already have several Jems, I say go for it. They did move the Prestige line back to Japan so you know that the workmanship will be top-notch. I'm confused by the earlier statement that "Prestige are low end Ibanez", unless he meant the MIK Prestige line. I have two MIJ Prestiges + a Jem and they're all great. I won't buy an Ibanez unless it's MIJ, so I base my opinion upon that.

I'm a huge fan of the Maple neck, too
