The collection

Was going through and polishing etc and thought I would take some pictures while I had them all together at my parents house (note parents couch LOL) a couple of weeks ago (usually store most of these at another family members' house in the studio). There is non-Ibanez content so if the mods want to make seperate..OK.

Ibanez...the reason we are here :

1988 777SK bought used in 1998 and was my first JEM, Headstock signed by Vai on the UltraZone tour
1994 7VWH surprise birthday gift from my wife who found it in a local pawn shop for $400. Need to replace the bridge on it due to corosion.
1993 77BFP bought new from a dealer in Colorado in 1999 (yes they had never sold it), signed by Vai on control cover
1999 7DBK bought new in 1999
1987 RG450 or 550...cant remember now. Pickups swaped for DiMarzio PAF Pros. My first Ibanez and has one of the best thin necks on any guitar I have (but similar to the DBK). Lowest action also.

Re: The collection

Classic/Vintage:

1973 Fender Telecaster Custom Christmas present from grandmother in 1986. Came in on trade in when while I was working in a music store in Nashville. Used this in the studio for some session work...bought it specifically for country sound (did say it was Nashville LOL). Previous owner had swapped the neck pickup for the DiMarzio and added a coiltap. Very versitle little guitar.
1971 Fender Strat Birthday 18th Birthday present with original case. Parents paid $375. Rare color. There were literally 20 or so of these of different years and colors on the wall in this little store in Smyrna Tn. This one and one other one stayed in tune no matter what I did with the bar. The other one was a '65 pre CBS sunburst and they wanted $1200 for it....crazy price at the time. Wish now i had bought both.
1981 Gibson Les Paul Heritage Award 50 '59 reissue. One of 50 made. No serial number, just a pearloid plate. Christmas present from Grandparents in 1985 with original case. Has all gold hardware from factory and ebony fretboard. Really nice flame and this was my main guitar for a while when I played in a classic rock band.
1952-4 Gibson Les Paul. no serial number (ink long since gone). Believe it or not, I paid $200 for this in 1987...but it was not in great shape at the time. Was originally a gold top with soap bar P90s and trap bridge. Best Gibson can estimate likely 54ish for the year. Previous owner replaced pickups with humbuckers, put the bigsby and tunamatic bridge and had Gibson convert to sunburst finish some time in the 60s. I posted a picture of this earlier when I first got in back after having Gibson go back through the guitar where they replaced the trus rod and pickups with Gibson PAFs recoiled by them with the four wires with taps. Love this guitar as it is plays really well, is still vintage and worth money but because someone else has altered it, it is playable and not an museum peice. Unfortunately I still worry about this one and some of the more expensive ones getting stolen so I have to store them and don't get to play them as often.

Re: The collection

Off the beaten path:

1984 Yamaha SG 300 My first real guitar. Has great sounding pickups and a one piece neck through the body neck
1997 Cort Viva..OK, some of you will dump on this guitar...it is made in Korea. However, it was intended on being an upper end guitar. It has a two piecethin line mahogany body with satin finish that is routed and really nice pewter hardware. Only bad thing was the pickups and how they were mounted in the guitar. I replaced the pickups with Breed in the bridge, JS-2 stack in the center and a PAF Pro in the neck and used Prestige pickup rings. Very light great playing guitar and has a quality feel to it even though it maybe cost me $600 total with the pickups.
1985 Peavy Patriot. This was my first project guitar. Replaced the orignal bridge with a Kahler 2000 series trem. Originally, I replaced the pickup (originally with only a bridge pickup with single volume control) with a Fernandez sustainer system I won at the 2001 Jemfest. This was my main studio and gigging guitar for a long time. It has a surprisingly nice neck and good weight to it.

Re: The collection

Hot damn, nice collection. I wish I still had my "first real guitar." I kick myself for having sold it years ago.

I have sold 3 guitars I wish I had back. I had a great wine red mid 70s les paul std and a rear sunburst deluxe...both I sold for 400-500 which was the going price back then...each worth 2-3K each now. Also let a good little Tele that I got for a present I wish I could get back. Sold a Charvel model 3 that I stopped playing when I got the Ibanez and 2 Gibson SGs I rarely played. Pretty much everything I have owned.

They were all over the place when I bought it..think I paid less than $500 with case and shipping. It all goes in cycles. Back when I got my vintage guitars it really was the bottom of the market for them.
