Re: Cool finish on a jem?
buy two different stains ( light sandy coloured, dark reddy brown)
make sure the body is raw wood! no primer, so on.
put the dark first over the body, let it dry then sand it right back,so there is very little stain left on the body. then do this with the lighter stain.
do this whole process about 6 times and the grain starts to form a riple in the wood.
it took me a long time to master it, so don't think it will turn out like that guitar the first time.have a couple of goes on a piece of wood untill you get the hang of it as you can make a large mess of what you are staining if it goes wrong.
when all finshed i just put some gloss laquer over it to really bring all the colour's out.
this is how i have done it and it has turn out really good. somtimes you can get this gold-silvery swirl forming through the grain, thats when it just the best.
