Covered pickups in a JEM - Anybody done this?

Hi all,

I'm thinking about doing a pickup swap on one of my JEMs and I'd like to consider a model with the chrome covers. *Is there any issue in fitting the plastic bezels around the pickup? *Do the existing screw holes work, or do you have to drill new holes for the bezels?

Thanks,
G

Why not just drop them into the pickguard? You shouldn't need bezels at all.

Well, I thought of that but I want a really clean, finished look. *I figured the bezels would make it look more complete. *Maybe I'm wrong here...?

To me, a "clean finished look" means getting rid of superfluous details.

Adding mounting rings will add visual clutter and eight screws to the face of the guitar. That doesn't look clean to me.

Satchmo has a Rainbow with Gibs*n style p/u covers on it. Hideous if you ask me, but you didn't

Yeah, after further thought I think I'll try it without the mounting rings. *I guess it depends on how well the pickups fit in the existing pickguard holes.

Rich, is a Rainbow one of the "Satriani with Graphics" guitars you love so much? * :-) *If so, I can imagine that would look horrible. *This is for a JEM 10, and I think the chrome-covered humbuckers will look really sweet on it, better than the worn chromed-plastic buckers on there now. *Plus, I have 3 guitars with Evos and I want to make that guitar sound more unique. *

Now the question is, which pickups to get but I'll figure that out sooner or later... *;-)

I like the pickups the way they are, but that is my opinion.
