Custom JEM built

Jemsiters:

I built this JEM copy last year in my garage woodshop but never got around to posting pics. Didn't bother with the Lions Claw.

Specs are:
Swamp Ash body with Tung Oil finish - the body is approx 1/4" thicker than a standard JEM/RG. The blank was cut in half and laminated down the center of the body.
Pickups: EMG 81/85 Zakk Wylde set with 18v mod. (i.e. two batteries)
Bridge: Ibanez Edge (bought from Rich Harris)
Neck: 5 Piece - maple/boxwood/bubinga/boxwood/maple with bubinga binding on the maple fretboard
Frets: Jumbo

Re: Custom JEM built

Very nice! How does it sound? Did you build it yourself? P.S, I live near Brampton!

Re: Custom JEM built

Thanks, yes I built it myself, it started out as a couple of blocks of wood. My main tools are a Delta table saw, Freud router, and Rigid belt sander. The dimensions were taken from my RG550. The neck is slightly thicker than a Wizard. It sounds great clean or distorted, but mostly excels at heavier stuff.

Re: Custom JEM built

Damn that is a nice guitar. I built a custom too with a thicker Alder body - tone for days! Great work.

Looks great! I love that finish.

Is it heavy? It's thick!

Re: Custom JEM built

nice guitar, if it had a blank fretboard and no grip, i'd be all over it.

Re: Custom JEM built

Thanks for the compliments.

It's a little heavier than my RG's but not like a Les Paul or anything.

I think if I decide to build another I'll go with the blank ebony board and no grip.

Re: Custom JEM built

That really is beautiful. I don't like maple boards as a rule, but that one looks good.

Re: Custom JEM built

Guys, thanks alot, I'm glad someone else can appreciate my JEM interpretation. If anyone wants any tips on their own build, let me know.

Cheers.

Re: Custom JEM built

Great lookin' build dude. As a guy who does a lot of this sorta custom stuff though I cant help wishin' that the board were some kind of figured maple (birdseye, flame) instead of just regular. Looks very sleek though
