Custom Jem .. your thoughts please....

I am waiting to receive a jem body from simms, with replica black / yellow EVH style stripes.

What are your thoughts for building this ? I need to do it reasonably cheaply, but any ideas would be great.

I had thought, maple fingerboard wizard neck and black hardware, maybe yellow pickups ? any other ideas would be welcome?

Cheers
Peter

Well it's all down to preference, it looks great BTW.
Anyway, yeah what pickups do you want? What trem is it routed for?

What wood is it BTW?

Its routed for an edge, so a lo-pro edge or edge pro will work no problem

Re: Custom Jem .. your thoughts please....

I'd go with a maple board and black headstock (you can probably find one on ****), chrome hardware, and black pickups. I don't think DiMarzios are available in yellow, but you could always get boobin toppers to go for a black/yellow zebra effect, which I think would look awesome.

Good luck.

Bobbin Toppers: http://www.universaljems.com/cart/bobbin.htm

I've seen some not-so-positive reviews on them...but they certainly won't hurt to try - they're very cheap.

I'd recommend going with a Super 3 (highly underrated pickup) in the bridge, a Cruiser in the middle, and an Air Norton in the Neck.

Good luck.

Dimarzios are available in yellow. http://img222.imageshack.us/my.php?i...ntrg760iy9.jpg
I have a tone zone in my RG760 that's yellow. Just look on The bayexpress to find the color you want
as there are about 15-20 pages of different pups and color combos.
You can also go with pickup caps that can be found on the Bayexpress as well. THe only problem with them
is the thickness they come in. I personally sanded mine down to almost paper thin. Once I get my other project guitar back I'll
post up a picture of the finished project. I'm basically going for a custom Rootbeer finish and pink
pups. Well I already had evo's in the guitar but they are a different color. I'm just going to paint
them black with a paint marker then glue the pink caps on top of the pup. I've test fit them already
and it doesn't look half bad. These are just some options you have.

Re: Custom Jem .. your thoughts please....

Not all Dimarzios are available in yellow. Recently I tried getting a MoJoe and HFH in yellow and the reply I received from 2 authorized vendors was that they are not available in yellow. If you check the color options on Dimarzio.com you will see that most humbuckers are not available in yellow.

I have an Air Norton in yellow =]

I've kinda been wanting a black/green one to go with the D-Sonic that I have ordered.

I could sell it to you if you were looking for that pickup.

Re: Custom Jem .. your thoughts please....

some great idea's thanks very much for your input. Sean, let me get back to you once the body arrives and i can see exactly whet type of yellow the stripes are, thanks for your offer.

I am thinking of buying a DBK off the bay, and transferring all the parts across, the only downer is the fret board is rosewood, but i guess i could get that changed later. not sure about the dbk neck either ? are the same as all other jems, they seem to have different construction.
