Ok guys, time to post those designs. I got to make a few more posts here & when I get 10 posts I will get these designs of mine up here. I like what I see from you guys here. It's very cool to see other peoples ideas cause after brain storming with only my ideas I can appreciate the different perspectives.

I cut gemstones and design jewelry for a living so this is very new to me. I've also noticed that a vast majority of you are way better at manipulating digital images than I am.

My idea was to play around with the word "Jem" by incorporating gemstone imagery and materials. The design is called "Jemstone". I used the interaction of light inside the 6.40 carats Oregon Sunstone, pictured with the guitar, that I cut specifically for this project to create the graphics. For the vine inlay, I'm suggesting that a green gem material called Chrysoprase be used. I have in the specs that the body be made of ash. I had to after seeing Steve make the "ash hole" joke on the contest video. I know it's become a little cliche after all these years but I also specified that the volume knob go to 11.

It's been interesting designing something that hangs from the neck that weighs pounds instead of carats.

No--it's closes at 6:00pm Pacific Time. Still got a few more hours for the computer gurus to fix the problem.

Guys, this is Sweet Royal, this is the starting point of my design. The finished design is clear acrylic with an amber tint and ebony fingerboard. All plastics in tortoise shell except the scratch plate......umm, where's my bloody picture gone.lol

This is my design, hope you like it (hope people at ibanez and steve will like it too!)
Today is my birthday and steve's brithday too, this is my gift to him!
Project description:
"A carved heart is a universally recognized love symbol: a heart carved in the wood of a guitar could be the best way to express love for music!
I even think that a Jem should not always be painted, I prefer the idea of a natural wood finish.
This a guitar that you can TOUCH and FEEL: ash body with carved and painted (red and blue) heart with veins.
Not only graphic, but truly part of the guitar.
This Jem comes with a Maple neck, Rosewood fingerboard and red and blue veins Inlay."

I wanna thank daniel the|loop for sharing his 3d virtual JEM model.
His work has been an inspiration, and I think that if he sent his version for the contest we have no chance! :-)

I had come across that page before, but didn't know what software to use to open up a 3ds file? For my design I made my own model in Solidworks (not nearly as detailed as Daniel's), but you can only open .part files in SW. A little late for the contest I know, but may be useful in the future

3ds files can be opened with a lot of 3d programs like 3dstudio, cinema4d or Artlantis Render (among the others)
Where is your design? Did you already post it here?
