Design contest - layout?
HI, I posted this question regarding how to layout my jem design (for the contest). I mainly want to know how and where i put the information of the specs, and does it have to be on the jpg of the template, and do we HAVE to use the template. my email to ibanez (which the did not answer :-( ) is below
...........
Hello! I was just wondering about some of the details of how to lay out my jem design: does it have to be drawn on the templet (through photoshop or something?). What format would be appropriate, how much info/too much info.? May I have an example of what would be preferred. I understand all rules and guidelines such as the pick-gaurd and pickups, but would like to see a good example of layout. should this be all in in one jepg, or one for each file. and where do I obtain this CSV file? should the description be included in a jpeg (or on the same page as the design) ? What woods are allowed? Can we use abalone inlays? Just if these questions could be answered, I will send my designs ASAP. Thank you very much.
..................
So thats about it right up their, i THINK i've read the instructions on ibanez's site right, but these questions are still out there for me.
please answer!

Re: Design contest - layout?
Just a wild guess...
Explain as much as you need for them to understand your idea. If you have bad artwork, more details in the written description might aid your cause. All they need is enough info to build a guitar exactly as you have planned it.
I don't think the file format is that important. They did state some file types in their guidelines, just make it all into one big file (one file for each idea if you have more than one).
You can use any wood you like and any material in the inlays. The only thing you can't do is change the pickguard and all that makes it to a Jem.

Dude it says eveyrthing you need to know, you put the specs on the same file as the image... seperate jpg file for each guitar.. you get the csv file from the ibanez competition page you need to fill out info and it then creates the csv file which you then download..
I suggest going back and reading more carefully, because all the info is there and its been talked about to death on another thread already

I just use VRG builder and the specs can be easily included in the same jpeg

Re: Design contest - layout?
When I use Kisekae or V-RG, then save to Paint, etc...I look at the file size and it's much larger than what they're asking for...anyone else run into this? Anyway, I've been just printing them up on photo paper, printing out the entry form and sending them in by mail.

Re: Design contest - layout?
I've written a Design Spec in word. Drawn my design (well nearly finished doing the sketches!) and I'll scan the design in, and print screen the word doc, stick it as one Jpeg file.
But I'm also going to mail a copy of the word doc and the design drawing, because I'm worried one'll fail to send!

Re: Design contest - layout?
The contest kinda sucks.
Every imaginable JEM has already been built for Mr. Vai himself, and the "kisekae" goof arounds are seriously silly.
You won't want a JEM with Bigsby, for example, will you?
Swirls... done...
Hardtail... done...
Textured finishes... done...
Different inalys... done...
I'm opting out of this contest. Honest!

There are quite a few things that haven't been done!
Unfortunately one of the two ideas I have (for innovative models at least) breaks the rules slightly (and would require the manufacturing of a completely new bridge!) but I have an ace up my sleeve!

Well... I guess I'd only die for a flamed maple JEM.

Re: Design contest - layout?
I'm keeping it simple...basically just color variants, figured wood necks on a couple and one or two with an inlay that hasn't been done before...but I am using mostly pyramids on my designs because they're my fave and, it's easy for Ibanez to do.
