Difference between Original Vs. Reissue 77FP

So I'm looking for a Jem and not having much luck on here. I was browsing CL and came across an ad where a guy stated he had a 77fp reissue for $1200? I never knew their was a reissue? What are the differences between the original and reissue? How much are the reissues worth?
Thanks

Re: Difference between Original Vs. Reissue 77FP

The 77FP re-issue was for the 15th anniversary of the original and was sold in 2003. Differences that I'm aware of were the new-at-the-time Edge Pro and AANJ. I think everything else was essentially the same as the original. As far as value, I really couldn't say, but $1200 for one in good condition certainly seems reasonable to me, assuming everything's legit.

There is, in my opinion, some magic associated with the originals...

Maybe I'm nuts but I swear when I play newer Jems against the originals, there is a certain quality that the newer ones just don't have...

Well, sure, I can see that. It's likely that production techniques and/or materials used were slightly different, and it's also possible that the oft-mentioned "mojo" of the older instrument makes it somehow superior, and it's also possible that it's all in your head. Any of these three is equally likely, and also equally valid.

Age?

The term reissue started with the 99's, for whatever reason. It's not like production ever stopped. Ask for the serial number, that will tell what year it is if you care. Otherwise, other than the 15th which has an Edge Pro [and no FP has the AANJ] the only differences will be direct mount pickups / guard mount, Edge / Lo Pro / Edge Pro, where the volume knob is.

Ah, I remembered that one incorrectly. Also, I do find it a little weird that they'd put the Edge Pro on it, but not the newer neck joint, which by the time of the 15th was already 10 years old.

The serial number is on the headstock.

I used to have a Jem77FP Reissue. But I had to sell it a couple years ago. It was One of the best and beautiful guitars I ever played. I still miss it very much. Also like the fact that it was a lot newer and "fresh" compared to an original.

That's not the correct serial number. The serial number on the back of the headstock should start with an "F".

Maybe that's why he's asking $1200 instead of the usual $2300+
