Do you fix your Jemīs?

This is maybe fun: When you buy new/used Jem, do you customize it (Sanding, change pickups, change angle of neck etc.)

Re: Do you fix your Jemīs?

To "fix it" implies that it was broken in the 1st place. I have not bought a broken guitar ever.

A lot of us Jem owners "customize" our Jems when we get them. I personaly just put on nicer volume and tone knobs. Otherwise a Jem is perfect when I get it (other than the set up, but that's not fixing or customizing, it's just regular maintenance.

Re: Do you fix your Jemīs?

At least in 7DBK volume & tone switches went broken almost immediately, so i changed them into Fenders...

Re: Do you fix your Jemīs?

I always go a little more exotic than fender knobs. For example I have a BRMR (mirror top jem ) and I bought chrome knobs for it that flair out like tha stock knobs, these are chrome instead. For my VWH I bought gold chrome with mother of pearl center knobs, again they flair out like the stock ones but look so much better. I also match the pickup switch with the same thing. For my UV77Bk I put Chrome knobs with abalone centers. It's pretty easy to find these things, just do a google search for guitar parts.

Re: Do you fix your Jemīs?

I sand/clean necks, usually have to do a MAJOR cleanup of the whole thing (i cant believe how much gunk people have inside their edges) and probably redo the wiring... but this is with all guitars, not just jems...

no point in keeping it "original" if position 5 of the switch doesnt work!

Re: Do you fix your Jemīs?

Not so much fix, but have 2 custom projects from mixed parts on the way. One starting from an old beatup 777DY body, and another from an rg body modded with the handle and claw. Both with custom necks. They won't be jems, but they will be my custom babies.

No doubt - I usually go through the entire guitar - spend about 8-10 hours on it.

general setup things, truss rod adjustment, set the trem hight, if needed shim the neck (mine needed it) set pickup levels and then play till its right, after that general maintanence , some bore oil few times a year and thats it

I don't fix my guitars, I just let them sit around broken until someone offers to buy them :P

Re: Do you fix your Jemīs?

I got the cash together, I'm ordering tonight.

I'm going to put in a push/pull vol pot acting as an independant toggle for the bridge pickup so I can get some neck and bridge action, and another in the ton postion to split the evos.

Re: Do you fix your Jemīs?

Yeah Tom! Good for you. You've earned it. Won't be long now. Does Rich have it in stock or do you have to wait to order one?
