Does anyone Like the Jem jr 555?

I know the 555 catches alot of slack, but does anyone own one and like it? I bought one from a friend (he bought it in 2000 brand new but never really played it) along with a new Ibanez hardshell case for $450. The best part is he takes payments. I blocked off the tremolo
and now it's like a hardtail with a locking nut. Big improvement. Thanks

I've played a few and enjoyed them. If it were mine, I'd be routing out some of the trem cavity to put a better Ibanez trem in it. Glad you like yours. The ones I played, they store wanted 1300$ CAD for them. Brutal. I wouldn't buy one new, but if I had the money and found one used, it'd be mine.

I played on one at a shop once. I didn't dislike it, but there are plenty of other guitars for that price I would pick over the 555.

I dunno. The Jem people here are hardcore Fujigen and probably not the best to ask. To try and put it to a similar arguement, would I, a PGM fan, play a PGM30 or a PGM3 and I would say no. I have tried a PGM30 (which I would liken to the 555) and it just didn't feel right.

I've owned a couple of them over the years, and I like them. I've had no problem with the trem. I think they're great guitars.

Is either the PGM3 or PGM30 a hardtail?

Probably too expensive new, but I'd buy one second hand and pimp it, rather than change a "real" JEM!

If you go to Jemsites main page under 'Articles Menu" click on "Ibanez Jem and Universe info"
it says "Prior to January 1997 the 555 had Jem Jr inscribed on the headstock"

what i mean is;

There is two ibanez jrs

the 333- Crappy guitar with all ibanez parts(no EVO pickups, normal neck)

the 555- a bit better guitar (some upgraded parts, vine of life fret, but not full vine)

they are both JR's but theres a big difference

Re: Does anyone Like the Jem jr 555?

I tried 4 at a store before buying my prestige 1527.
I didn't like the feel of its neck and fingerboard.I tried to lower its action and buzzes start to sing(lol).
I didn't like trem too cause it sounded like it never got back at the same place.
Probably with some adjustments it'd get better but my prestige was ready to play, action almost 0 and no buzzes at all.
I brought it to my house, adjusted intonation and for 4 years it didn't need any other adjustment.
So I didn't like it.

Re: Does anyone Like the Jem jr 555?

I own a Jem Jr. 555bk and I LOVE this guitar!!!!! It's just soo beautiful and there are no low quality issues (at least on my exemplar)...
The trem is staying perfect in tune and the neck is very comfortable to play!
For me, it's a perfect instrument and for me it's worth its' money....
A friend of mine owns a 7vwh and it's also a good instrument but I wouldn't want to pay more than the doubled price for it just because it's a 7v!....there are not that much improvements that would justify the huge price difference!

For that, I gonna be scrunched by the 7v owners ^^...

greets
Jemmy
