Does EVO have new pickups?

The polepieces look like shiny new gold. I thought the originals had the gold worn off years ago.

Re: Does EVO have new pickups?

The pickups look new, which is strange. I remember reading somewhere that Steve had one of his guys dig through a dumpster to get one of Evo's original pickups back on the guard after his tech replaced it because it just didn't sound the same.

Re: Does EVO have new pickups?

Evo had the original prototype Dimarzio evolutions, but the guitar Evo is jsut about on her last legs, she has a huge crack going through her and Steve cant keep it in tune very long.

Maybe he's stuck Evo's original pickups into one of his more used guitars.

Re: Does EVO have new pickups?

maybe he just tidied up the old pickups a bit? just gave it new covers n pole pieces.
Eco's suggestion sounds likely too. maybe hes making a proper replacement for evo
if i were him i would get a new body and swap the neck, hardware and electronics over when the crack finally gets too much

from vai.com:

"Ibanez has made every attempt to try and fix this but the crack runs through the entire body and is making it harder and harder to stay in tune. Sadly, nothing can be done and the guitar is becoming more and more unreliable to keep in tune and the neck is constantly shifting. As a result she may be confined to the studio and not brought on tour anymore."

Re: Does EVO have new pickups?

Mikey from Vai.com has confirmed the the crack has long been fixed and that EVO is just fine.

I say the poles have been replaced or the photo touched up, or even Steve was trying out new pups in a familiar guitar.

Re: Does EVO have new pickups?

I know I read somewhere or was it at a EVO Experience, that Steve had a issue with the neck pickup on EVO and it was pulled from Evo2 at the time, and the tech just dumped it in the trash, then on the tour bus, Steve asked about the pickup and he said he through it out, and they turned the tour bus around and had everyone in the trash looking for it again. Yes they did find it.
