Re: edge pro to lo pro
Hey Luca. I have an RG 2550 with Edge Pro and I'm thinking about putting an original Edge inside. I'm very curious how your project goes.
Any experts had any luck in putting an original Edge in an RG Edge Pro guitar?

Re: edge pro to lo pro
So I started the project today and it didn't fit (as I expected). I had to take 3mm. of from the Edge (as picture shows provided by dex previously on this threat page 3)
After that, it still didn't fit! The baseplate on Edge is a bit bigger at the back corner, where the whammybar goes in. So I took the body to a luthier that will take about 1 mm. of from the body at the back corner of the tremrouting.
I will post pics so you will get a good look of the project.
So to J.B., Edge won't just drop in to Edge Pro routing

Re: edge pro to lo pro
So here's a pic from the 7VWH with the Edge Pro. I marked the areas where I had to modify the
Edge trem
and body of the axe.
I took off 3 mm. from the "horns" of the baseplate (no.1 in the picture). Then the end of backcorner of the routing is too tight for Edge. The luthier thought that she has to take about just 1 mm. of from the corners that she can fit the trem (no.2).

Re: edge pro to lo pro
So she came back today and now she's got a new trem...
As you can see, the luthier made a well job making the routing just a bit bigger. She still needs cosmoblack tuners and the Ibanez tremolo backstop...

Re: edge pro to lo pro
Nice job dude. So just to confirm, the four corners on the cavity need to be widened?
Black hardware is the business alright.

Sorry it took so long to reply.
Only the "lower" corners had to be widened. The luthier made a great job with it.

Re: edge pro to lo pro
Awesome job mate !!!
Just a quick question. I have 2 Goeldo Back Boxes (similar design like Ibanez Backstop) installed in my RG and, although the guitar virtually never gets out of tune no matter what I do, I found the trem to be a lot stiffer, harder to pull up on and the flutter is completely gone. Also, it makes a clicking noise when I hit the trem bar for a pull up.
How are your experiences with the backstop? Does it suffer any of the above mentioned side effects? How is your flutter? Is the tuning stability markedly better?
Thanks a lot in advance!

Re: edge pro to lo pro
If you aren't awere of it yet. There is a product called tremol-no, which adds no stiffnes to guitar. You can block tremolo, block pull-ups or have a completley free tremolo.

Re: edge pro to lo pro
I am very well aware of that, but that is not what I want.
I was looking for a comparisson between two different trem setters, not trem stoppers.
Since I have a goeldo Back Box, and he has an Ibanez Backstop, I was wondering how the two compare.
I myself am not too happy with goeldo's trem setter for the reasons I mentioned in my above post.
Anyone else have an Ibanez Backstop and wishes to share his/her experiences? They cost a small fortune nowadays though...
