Re: Edge vs Edge lo-pro

They're both great trems. If a guitar has either one it's fine. The original Edge has more "pull" and feels a bit smoother, but the lo-pro has has the comfort of being a low-profile trem. (no whale tail like the Edge).

Re: Edge vs Edge lo-pro

So whats really the point of the low profile? just so it doesnt go out of tune when you palm mute? Isn't there a little arm rest that Steve Vai made for the edge for this reason?

What are some more advantages and disadvantages of these 2 bridges? and do you guys know of any links that can tell me more about them?

Also, how much travel do they have? Can they compare to an OFR or a ZR or Edge pro... in the way of travel?

Re: Edge vs Edge lo-pro

The advantages of the Lo Pro and Edge Pro to me are access to the allan screws being in front of the "whale tail". I put a quadruple folded rag under the trem when changing strings and it is always in the way of the screws that hold the strings in the blocks. Small issue and a volume knob or coke bottle cap (2lt version) wrapped in a cloth works better.

http://www.ibanezrules.com/tech/setup/index.htm

Best place to get good working info on the trems.

You should get a perfect 5th of pullup on any Edge model when set up properly if you have the clearance in the trem cavity (like the lion's claw on a Jem).

The hand rest was only on the LNG model and they were legally told they couldn't produce them anymore (the hand rest) if I remember correctly.

Some people says the low profile goes easy on the picking hand, I don't know though both just work fine for me,

Re: Edge vs Edge lo-pro

Great thanks guys, I dont want ot start a new thread for every question I'v got so I'll just ask in here for a bit. I have been seqrch the forum, and when people talkl about bridge they talk about "fluttering" and how one bridge flutters better than the other? WTF does that mean? I make a guess... is it when u hit the whammy and it vibrates the bridge for a cool effect?

Yep - that is a "flutter". A tight trem and stiff trem bar will get an easy flutter when you lightly press down on the bar and let your finger fall off the bar, this produces a "flutter" effect. Vai turns the bar away from the strings and does this manuever quite often just tapping the bar slideing off of it so the spring/string tension brings the trem back to pitch after a second of "fluttering".

There is a VAST base of information here. make good use of the search feature as most questions have been asked at one point or another.

Re: Edge vs Edge lo-pro

Here's my take at it.. if you're a HUGE trem abuser. You'll like the feel of the EDGE. If you use it occasionally, you'll probably want the lo-pro.

Re: Edge vs Edge lo-pro

Ok, I have discovered that the Edge is probably my thing, if I can find one of those steve vai trem hand rests.... that solves the whole palm mute problem right there... which makes the Edge superior to the lo-pro because of the good fluttering ability (I use flutters quite often). Do you guys agree with my thinking^^ or is that idea not so good in your opinions?

Idealy a OFR would be my thing but probably not great to switch the bridge on an origional jem that im looking at. Will an OFR fit in a jem if you wanted to switch it even? or would routing be required?

Re: Edge vs Edge lo-pro

I've never understood the issue with palm-muting on an Edge, or any other floating bridge for that matter. The majority of the guitars I play regularly have Edges and I never have any issues with the guitar going sharp while palm-muting.
