Re: EVERYONE WITH A SWIRLED UV -STEP UP!!!!

That's an awsome ATD UVMC Kevin. The neck plate is not even corroded! Looks like half GMC and half MC put together. I'll have to review the ATD MC galleries for comparison but, I think that's one of my favorite ATD MCs.

Re: EVERYONE WITH A SWIRLED UV -STEP UP!!!!

Very well then, as of week before last I too am the proud owner of a swirled UV. I bought it for what I am beginning to think (having seen others UVs for sale) is a pretty good price, and apart from the nasty bits of damage to the front (the two white spots in the yellow on the upper horn), it is almost perfect: no scratches, no dings on the edges, nothing. You can tell it has been played from the pickguard and the trem, but the frets are perfect. I am quite happy with it.
All it needs is some cleaning, oiling of fretboard, polishing of frets and setting up, and it will be even nicer.

However I am not sure if it is an MKR or ATD swirl, can anybody tell? The pink is pink but hardly neon, the green is quite bright, and the yellow is really bright and saturated.

But on to more important things, here are the pics:

I forgot, the trem cavity plate is missing and it's got neck pocket cracks.
Oh well.

GilkyBear: that is an amazing find, congratulations! And I agree, if you can spare the cash and run into something like this, DO NOT WAIT, BUY IT.

Oh wait, you did that didn't you?

Thank you.

How do you tell exactly? I have seen some ATD swirls on this forum and the pinks appear to be more graduated, like the black on mine, is that the (or a) difference?

Re: EVERYONE WITH A SWIRLED UV -STEP UP!!!!

Check out mine in the first thread - MKR's colors are less vibrant than ATD's.
Trade off is the ATD's colors fade over time while the Japanes MKR's do not.

MKR's usual givaway is that 'mustard' yellow. Still great guitars- I am having a very difficult time deciding whether to keep mine or sell it- I'm leaning towards keeping it. The more I play it, the better I like it.
Wonderful guitars.

Re: EVERYONE WITH A SWIRLED UV -STEP UP!!!!

not the best photo of my MKR - it's actually a lot brighter looking than in appears in this photo ! It's got a few nicks here and there, but won't ever be sold, so I don't care I got this for a bargain a couple of years ago from a guy at work, and ending up finding out the full story behind it a month or 2 ago. I used to go to a jam night at a local pub in the early 90's while I was at school, and a chap there bought a brand new UVMC along, which I had a look at and was amazingly jealous. Turns out it's exactly the same guitar - he'd got it whilst on holiday in Cyprus as the guy at the guitar shop he visited there had one come in on an order by accident !! Some coincidence that it turns out the very first UV I see is the one I end up buying some 15 years later ! Apologies for that ramble - here's the pic:

You could always check the neck pocket. My ex was an ATD, but I don't think all the ATD's were stamped. Rich will know.
