Evolutions

I have a VSBL which I love but I am not impressed with the tone from the bridge pickup. The neck is not as bad but still not great. I also have a DBK and I love the tone of the breeds. Maybe they just don’t work well with my gear (mainly POD II), I want to change them but it seems a bit sacrilegious.

Has anyone else changed their evolutions ?. I fancy a set of Bare Knuckle Miricle Man's

Cheers

Darren

Re: Evolutions

Dude they're just pickups!!! if you don't like them, then change them

You can then either keep the originals to be able to restore the guitarto it's original condition or sell them to help finance the new pickups!!!

Re: Evolutions

I also hate them but we are in the minority here.
I don't know what it is but I've never liked the Evo's and after about 10 hours of tweaking my amp and playing this weakend I still can't come up with anything usable - they just sound wrong to my ears.

Re: Evolutions

What helped me in this situation, was lowering the pickups pretty much as low as they'd go. I found the EVOs to be way too hot, and when I lowered them, it made all the difference in the world. Kind of like when you have a radio cranked on 10, you've got breakup and static, but if you lower the volume to 7 or so, you're still just about as loud, just without the static and breakup.

Re: Evolutions

I fell in love with the tone zone and the paf pro, however i wont replace my jem7vwh's pickups i will keep it as it is and would buy another guitar for those pickups.

same thing i did, but i do have the evolutions on my gsa which is an agathis body (kinda like mahogany) so that maybe the reason it sounds good too.

Re: Evolutions

I much prefer Vai's tone on PAW and the DLR albums - those were all done on PAF Pros, correct? Does anyone have sound clips directly comparing Evos to the PAFs?

Re: Evolutions

Correct MehYam, he was using basswood bodies with pafpro pickups in the DLR period, while most of passion and warfare was done with a 7 string, i think that they were blaze pickups, anyway the Evolutions saw the light of day with the JEM7VWH back in 1993.
