Evolutions in Basswood Jem 7DBK - Yea or Nay?

Sorry if this has been covered - I did a search and didn't find alot of info.

Anyway, the Breeds in my Jem 7dbk are nice, but I'm searching for a crisper sound with more treble clarity. The tone patterns on the DiMarzio site make it seem as if the Evos are what I'm looking for.

Would Evos in a Basswood body sound terrible? I am looking for a nice clean sound as well as a tight, clear distortion - but I'm concerned that the combo would sound thin or shrill...

Any thoughts would be appreciated!

The evos will fit ur guitar fine, they have a lot of treble, with a tight low end. vai uses an evolution bridge on his Flo guitar (which has a basswood body) and it sounds amazing. listen to whispering a prayer for example.

I had an Evo bridge in my RG570 (basswood) and it sounded great! I was looking for the same sound as you.

Keep in mind that the Jem7BSB and Jem90 were both basswood guitars that came stock with evos (and I've owned both of 'em, so I can tell you that it's a wonderful thing!).

I'm pretty sure your DBK will sound great with EVOs. I've got a Jem90th which does have basswood body and EVOs, and it sounds great.

I have a BSB with stock Evos. This guitar is one of my best sounding Jems (#1 or #2) that I have. Therefore, I can say that basswood and Evos do mix. Do remember though, all guitars have their own sound and tone and other's experiences with certain pickups may not directly apply to your guitar....

That's great - I'm still learning about other Jem models and it's good to hear that some of your favorite Jems have had Evos! I have my DBK "in the shop" right now to replace the pots and 5 way switch (they were all getting noisy) and maybe I can get some evos to him before he gets under the hood!

Well,

It's a matter of taste, of course, but do keep in mind that if you have a crappy amp, the pickup change would not take your guitar sound to new heights.

I removed the evo (bridge) from my jem 90 because I think they are to muddy.
I use boogies, triaxis, mark 2c+, and to me, the change to steve's special or tone zone (in my jem90) sounds way much better.
But it IS a matter of taste.

But I do find it a bit strange that everybody wants to change pickups, long before they get a decent amp.
The stock ibanez v8 in a 2020 sounds way much better in a boogie, than a steve's special sounds in a peavey. (my taste, but I think you know what I mean)
