Thumbs up

first post. quick question about jem/sustainer--->>>

first of all, it's great to be here.

I've got a jem7vsbl and it is absolutely the best guitar I've owned. Well, to my question. About 2 years ago I was intersted in getting a sustainer kit for one of my wolfgangs, but never put it in. If I put it in my jem, will it destroy the sound of the guitar?? Has anyone ever done this to their jem. Is it worth it?? It just really sucks to have a 300$ pickup system like that just sitting around collecting dust.

suggestions??

thanks,
brian.

Yeah, this guy Steve Vai has put a sustainer in his Jem:

Does it sound good? Listen to "Whispering a Prayer".

Seriously, though, I haven't put a sustainer in any of my guitars, but have always wanted to. I can't imagine it doing anything but improving the sound... unless maybe it's not installed properly or something.

Well, have fun with it!

yeah, I know it'll give me really cool controllable sustain, and the ability to play in "slow motion," but I was just curious if it would really make the guitar lose serious amounts of tone, considering I'd have to carve out about a pound of wood.

You wont have to carve out much much to do it.. I have a sustainer kit that Im installing in my RG that im making into a jem and we arent going to be doing much routing, and the Jems have a bigger cavity so you wont have to rout as much.. The only effect it will have on tone i think will be that you wont have an evolution in the neck position anymore..

yeah. I think I'm just gonna do it. It bugs me that I spent that much on the sustainer system and I'm not using it.
