FP to swirl opinions sought

I've got a beat 88 FP that I've owned since new (yes I beat it over 15 years of gigging). Its nothing extremely bad, maybe a 7 of 10. Anyways I have two others, a 91 & 93 that are dead mint, no dings or stress cracks. So I'm thinking I might strip the 88 and have it swirled...what do you guys think? Should I be burned at the stake, or no big deal? I don't think I'm really changing my ability to be able to sell it if I had to, because it is already beat. Just want a swirl, and don't want to drop what the real ones are bringing.

I wouldn't do it! However, you are not me...so if you want to do it you should!! Don't think of it in terms of resell, because you'll be doing it for you and not as a seller...

Re: FP to swirl opinions sought

I don't think you should do it, even if its beat, its still an FP!

If you want I've got a Jaden Rose body that has never been painted and fits the FP neck that i have perfectly. Its basswood and has never had a neck screwed onto it at all or anything else for that matter. Its cut for a lo-pro/edge trem. i've been looking to pick up an older FP body and use it/possibly restore it, if you'd be down for a trade (+cash) let me know. just don't want to see any more FPs get stripped/totally destroyed.

Re: FP to swirl opinions sought

Do it.

The FP is the perfect candidate for a swirl. if the guitar needs refurbishing anyway, a swirl is definately the way to go to bring it back into mint condition. Treat teh axe to new hardware and pickups at the same time

you should only be burned at the stake if you don't post pics after the swirl is done

As long as it isn't one of the more unusual pattern combinations.

I'd still probably keep it because of it's age and just buy a replacement body. That way you can always change your mind.

If it's given you 15 years of good service and refinishing it is going to keep you playing it for the next 15, then I say do it.

But it's your guitar, fella

Re: FP to swirl opinions sought

How badly damaged is it? Is doing a restoration job feasble.

If you restored it, it would probably be worth more than if you swirled over it.

Why not post some pics of the existing damage...?

Re: FP to swirl opinions sought

Thanks for the replys. I'm still undecided. I do have a blank body from the Legacy clown that is actually a good one (took several trys, go figure). I may just use that and take the parts from one of my RG2550's. I've been out of the loop for awhile, who's the person to talk to in the states about swirls these days?
thanks for the input.
