scalloping,... quite a thing...
Personally, I don't think it's really necessary on the whole neck for
ibanez guitars, since they are already equipped with pretty big frets.
With a
scalloped neck your fingers will never touch the fretboard
+ more grip on the strings for easier, more extreme bends/vibratos
+ might lighten your fingering touch. less tendonitis, more speed.
- if you don't have a light touch, you're going to be out of tune
- note to note slides are a bit harder
on top of that, especially when you're new to scallops, you have an experience of "floating" above the neck and strings. Really cool
So, it makes bends and vibratos more expressive, slides however will get a little harder. IF it lightens your touch ( due to not having to flatten your finger on the fretboard before the string frets nicely ) you might experience a sense of freedom in you fretting hand, mainly on sweep picking in my experience. And... it's nice to play something different.
scalloping is not for you if you like to really dig in with your fretting hand ( either on chords or melodic lines ), you willl sound way out of tune ( common problem with people new to scallops).
I would not suggest doing it if you have only one guitar. It's nice to have on an extra guitar.
