Frets

I'va always wondered exactly how frets change the playability of the fingerboard Do higher frets mean a guitar won't be as fast as one with lower ones? What are the differences between the ones Ibanez installs in their guitars?

THX in advance for any help.

The player is fast, not the frets. Higher frets are easier to bend on, because you can get more finger meat under the string. They can also be dressed more times before a refret is needed. Lower frets have a bit less "drag" and can have better intonation IF you're a heavier handed player - you can't push the string sharp. Tall frets also make the neck feel thicker, because the feel "thickness" is really determined by the neck thickness PLUS fret height.

A thinner fret can be crowned to intonate better more easily, but with care a jumbo can be made to intonate just as well.

Higher frets offer much less resistance, becouse you are playing the strings and not the fretboard. I have a jem77FP and I can see the floor between my finger and the fretboard.
