got a jem VWH *= *D - got questions too

hey all, got me a jem, but I am curious about a few things:
How much did you guys pay for a VWH (no trade in, all new)?

Is the minimum distance of the strings from the pickups listed on Jemsite as 2.0 mm the minimum distance so you don't get any magnetic pull from the pickups? *How far do you guys set it up ? *Just curious

Also, dang, my first floyd guitar, and I realized.. *As I bend the high E, the low E bends flat, as in Eric Johnson's Cliffs of Dover.. *This is normal right? *Its just a little annoying for me...

Ok. now for my stupid question:

What happens if you fiddle around with the tuners when the nut is locked? *

Thanks for reading all,

-James

Get used to it. *That's a Floyd thing, not a Jem thing. *Since the bridge is 'floating' (meaning that ideally, the three springs in the back are counter pulling against the tension of the 6 strings in front ~ thus any change in tension on any string affects all the others (not just the low E). *That's why you can't just 'D' tune a floyd guitar. *That's also why you can't play the guitar anymore after you break a string - so if you're going to gig wtih it, make sure you have a backup. *(may i suggest a UV? :biggrin

As rsv said, nothing should happen to the tuning of the guitar - you could even snip them if you were so inclined - once you unlock them, whatever you have done to them above the nut will come to light.

Good luck with your new baby.

that is a guide... start there and modify your setup as per your needs *

why would you do this  if you dramatically change the tuners... UNLOCK and retune asap to avoid unbalanced tension... glen

Thanks man

But wait, as for the 2 mm guide in the setup section, is that where the magnetic pull starts and any further would unaffect the sustain? *Or is that the minimum distance so the string don't hit pickups when you hit the strings? *Just curious.. I have never really been into setting up by myself in all the time I've been playing... Always had someone else do it for me

Coming back to the "what happens if you mess with the tuners when the nut is locked" bit, two things:

1)I got my UV back, and the high E had snapped off behind the nut. The string was still in tune.

2)Dimebag Darrel: there's footage I think of him playing one of his guitars with the headstock snapped of and dangling by the strings. So it stays in tune

Then while doing bends: the rest of the guitar goes flat. If you are doing compound bends, slightly bend any notes you are holding (and wouldn't be bending).
