This is what Ibanez was founded on in the 70's, and a business practice that I emulate now.

When they were marketing the "lawsuit era" guitars, they had techs (from Japan) in the states setting up every guitar. When you went to a retailer and pulled stuff off the wall to demo, the Ibby guitar was set up and played great, while the old standby's were horrible in comparisoon. I don't know why this has stopped on the higher end models. I agree, if you're paying over a grand, it should be ready to play.

Our stuff starts a $749 street, and all have a pro setup. Of course, we're small, so it's easier to have a handle on.

Edit - FYI - I got a SFG from Rich in the raw, and had my tech set it up. It took a few hours, but it plays every bit as well as any of my other Jems.

I bought a brand new 77BRMR and a UV777PBK back in 2006 and they were both really badly set up from the factory, so dont think even when you buy a MIJ guitar that there any better.

Whoa... That pretty expensive.... You can get them here in Adelaide for $1550. I actually saw them for $1100 or $1200 when they first came out. I'm thinking about grabbing one... I'm not really into Jems anymore but I kind of like the look of this one. IMO, its the best looking Jem in years.

I've had quite a few EBMM guitars over the years and several of them being the JP6 stuff. Nice guitars but the fretwork is absolutely nothing to write home about. Apparently they are using stainless now so perhaps things are better?
