swirls are difficult to photograph, because you lose the small details and the colors can bleed. The non-ATD UV777MCs are especially tough, as the colors tend to saturate. Get lots of ambient light (no flash or sunlight) and maintain a sharp focus. Digital cams allow more experimentation, but a 35mm SLR will yield better photos
