Hit and Miss Jems
I read the article on the worst jems... wtf!?!? They have 777SK, as one of the worst jems, I dont understand this because It is exactly the same as half of the jems in the "best Jems" list... except for the color. What the hell is going on here? It seems that whoever made those list it basing how good the guitar is based on its looks? Can someone explain whats going on?
I just dont get why theyre so "rating" of Jems and so many of the this one is better or that one is better. I checked the specs and they are all pretty much the same except for cosmetics and the occasional variety in parts. In these lists what is it that makes a jem bad or good, thats bassically what im asking? I found the guitar that im interested in is low on the "good jem" list which is scaring me, because its the same specs as the good ones?

Re: Hit and Miss Jems
I take it as how popular that particular model was when it came out,as in people generally didnt like the pink as much as a floral. As you said they are pretty much the same spec, pick ups can be different but they are just different models not lower spec.Whatever Jem you get will be no worse than any other,as long as you dont get a 555.Its just some people put more worth in others due to rarity etc.

Re: Hit and Miss Jems
Ignore that article, it's not even important. It's pretty silly actually, come to think of it. If you like the SK, buy it and don't worry what other people think. I like it, but then I'm an oddball who prefers the old style grip too.

Re: Hit and Miss Jems
What's not to get?, The article clearly says it made the list because of how the color fades. It doesnt say anything negative about how it plays or sounds. Aside from the 555, the other 3 on the list are there just for visual reasons.

Re: Hit and Miss Jems
If there's a SK you want and it hasn't faded by now, it probably won't fade anytime soon.

Re: Hit and Miss Jems
The article is very subjective - I mean, I think the Vine Desert Yellow is one of the nicest looking JEMs - I mean, I'm a bit biased (given that I own one), and probably taste-blind as the JEM I'd REALLY like is a VSK! Like Cid says, the only reason the original 777SK got on the list was due to horrendous paint fading in some cases.

Re: Hit and Miss Jems
I'd take a SK anyday,
Partially because Pink guitars sell way cheaper.
Partially because even if I did care about color I could refinish it if I got a little too annoyed by the dude whats with the color remarks
(which I even often get with the DY)

Re: Hit and Miss Jems
I remember reading that when I first heard about jems- whenI knew next to nothing! at the time I remember thinking "why does it give LNG honourable mention?" and "oh good, it says those pink ones are rubbish". But now, I know better
Well I tell you that guy who picked up a SK for $700 is a very lucky guy- If i had seen that offer I would have jumped on it!

SK rating only depends on its color.

I know, wanna lick my shoes?
Anyway, how can the dbk be on the top of the list? A faded sk will always look better then a mint dbk.
