Holy New JEM's batman! what the heck is steve playing?!?

photos from firestrings have been realized on vai.com, and steve is playing a very special axe that I think you'd all like to see.

I don't believe this is being discussed elsewhere yet.

It is pure awesome! Here's a taste of what to expect from vai.com

Looks like the prototype for the so-called "Ultra JEM", complete with a built-in FX processor, Double Edge, etc. (and a Roland MIDI pickup too!)

Can we already hear (or see) anything of it? A CD, a bootleg?

Or did anybody see these shows?

My mistake, I would have thought a guitar he was using a year ago would have been disected to death by now. Maybe it hasn't been released because it needs two right hands to operate?

The photos of the guitar were just posted on www.vai.com today - they've not been seen before, so nobody really knew that he'd used the guitar as a backup for "Fire Strings"

That has almost enough switches to satisfy me

Have it control my Line6 amp, and give me one with 7 strings, and I'll be happy for years

Burt777: Steve told me that he has a recording of the shows, but I'm not sure if anything's going to come of them anytime soon. I hope to hear it, plus their 'Rite of Spring' afterwards!

Whats with the single pickup for the sustainer? Is it a prototype sustainer pickup as well? i cant say as how I like that. That looks like a stock sustainer kit truthfully, and those are WAYYY too man switches for me. Why doesnt he just run an extra cable and use a floorboard controller? probably be easier. I remember vai bitching once about a bc rich he had once that had way too many switches on it
