this should be interesting, buckle up nandnor, this thread is about to go for a ride. you would have done well to look around a bit before posting this one.
haha, Yea i have looked around. All i see is the "is this ebay guitar fake?" threads - Well yeah that is interesting in it self. But what if we accepted the premise of fakeness, and tried one out to see how the quality is? Would be interesting to hear
There was a guy who came on here a while back endorsing fake JEMs being sold online. The thread was locked down instantly, prompting another member to complain about "lack of free speech" or whatever... XD
I believe your thread is safe because you've only given credit to their appearance (which sometimes can be quite accurate to an actual JEM), and made a query regarding their quality... not exactly an endorsement of an illegal product
Your suggestion is in fact quite a good one. I for one would be interested to see a thread written by a reputable member (mods, Rich, Glen, etc.) where they physically have a 7VWH and a Chibanez with them and compare them directly (pictures and videos as well).
The only problem would be that the result is easily predicted, and I doubt any of them would be willing to part with their cash to buy a Chibanez
Seriously? Ethics aside, most of them are crap. The people who make them intend to rip you off, not to make a decent instrument. If you were to scrape off the carcinogenic finish, you'd find knotty pine scraps beneath.
There's a guy on Craigslist right now trying to trade his Jem dy for something...
Prob is, it has a pyramid inlay on first fret, decal is too low, truss rod cover is misshaped, and the Jem logo is black and says Jem jr. As others have already said, they are made to rip off ignorant and honest people.
Same concept as people who sell the fake purses and watches for barely less than the real thing. I have almost gotten screwed multiple times by sellers (even on on this site a couple years ago) and am all the more wary now because of it. If you want to contribute to Jemsite, Ibanez, and even yourself, then do a favor and find a used vwh or uv somewhere, they arent too much used, and buy the damn thing!!!!!!
Oh and also to answer your question, I've played them before (fake vwh) and it was disgusting. I'd say it's the equivalent to a brand new never-been-setup Ibanez gio.
No sustain, bad build and terrible look....just a big turnoff.
Neither are Ibanez, while both try their best to look like one. Would you call a refinished Chibanez with colored pickups a custom, or is it still a fake?
To me the difference is very blurred. Is the CNC making customs or fakes?
Custom/tribute: A quality built instrument that is intended to give the customer an authentic reproduction.........rarely less expensive than an original.
Fake/Counterfeit: A low quality instrument that is intended to deceive the buyer into thinking they are receiving an authentic product....always a fraction of the originals price.
Company finishing the guitar to look like an LNG.
Buy parts and build a guitar to look like an LNG.
Both are labeled Ibanez. Still only one is fake...? Not in my world.
I do agree that we won't see eye to eye on this. Read about all the problems different builders has had with details and templates. Tributes are not all quality instruments, not in fit and finish and not in sound. They are just "good" because they are what we like.
I see a huge difference... But to debate it would be redundant cuz there's a debate on this subject almost daily. It's gotten to the point to where I think we all know each others views lol and mine is the same as yours ryc. Just saying fake Jems aka chibanez B L O W S
Judging by the GIO comparison, Never as good as a real one. I'm sure there's gonna be a luck of the draw one that someone who's been playing for a month would say is nice, but avoid like the plague. It's not worth the wood it's printed out on.
If Rich were to waste any time doing his platinum setups on a Chibby, I could swear the world would start spinning the other way.
I think the Chinese would do better financially by just producing good bodies, not copies with gorilla grips and funky claws, using stable (solid) tonewood. But I think the world would also start spinning the other way on that
I guess Nandor has his answer and no popcorn required.
