How have you modded your 7VWH?

Hey guys

I'm one of those who would have a bit of a problem buying one of these. It's a truly wonderful guitar, but it's a bit too much vai over this one. actually over all the jems, but this one in particular. It's like the same thing if you try to copy someone elses tone, that you need a 7vWH to play vai stuff or a JS to play satch stuff.
Okay, i think that got real screwed up.
anyway, for you who feel the same as me, but maybe have bought one of these and changed some things on it to personalise it, what have you done? (like changing pickguards or hardware, etc..)

I havn't bought one for the very reason you're saying.. If i understand correctly. lol... It's a bit too imitation Vai (i mean no offense to anyone who has bought one). Truly lovely guitar, but don't think I could pull it off...

Cheers
James

Re: How have you modded your 7VWH?

That's what a signature modle is all about, a replica of what the artist plays. If you don't like to be associated with a particular artist by buying his/her signature model, then don't. But a lot of people say that the signature model suits what they play and identify it as their perfect axe. In that case, there's nothing wrong about owning a signature model. I haven't played a REAL Jem yet to know how good they are, so I can't make any comments about them. I too prefer not to buy signature models. I would buy a J-Custom and an RG Prestige before buying a JEM (unless I find a really good deal on one ). Anyway, it's all a matter of personal preference really. But by buying a signature model just because your idol plays and not like it, it's just a waste of money (unless is you're rich or keeping for display purposes, which is still a waste of money 'cause guitars are meant to be played ).

Check out Jemboyee's vwh. Silver hardware / black pickguard & truss cover. Doesn't look so Vai

All I did to mine was add gold knobs / selector tip....spose that made it even more Vai....but I have no problem with that at all. My personal fav of all my Jems right now is my BFP (love the maple)

Actually you are paying extra $1,000 dlls. to vai's signature, ibanez wins, vai gets paid,... that's why jems are overpriced.

His is very nice! I like how the black pickguard brings out the white of the pickups and of course the chrome hardware.

when i get mine at the start of next year, I'm changing all the pearloid guards to a light-blue mirror colour. and making the knobs and selector switches possibly gold or silver chrome.

Light blue mirror would look pretty cool actually.

Slapped in a sustainiac, battery hatch for the sustainiac, and a white DiMarzio cliplock strap. Next are gold strings to match the hardware.
