how much worth is a JEM 777DY?

Hey folks!
Someone (no user of jemsite) has offered me to buy his JEM 777DY.
Condition is good, little fretwear, very small flaws. Including hardcase and shipped for 1300 Euros.
A lot of people told me that the jemsite- pricelist is not up to date any more - so I have no idea if it is worth the money.
I have to say - I am not a collector. I just love playing great guitars ;-)

In that case, it's worth whatever you're willing to pay for it.

Are you in the market for a guitar in general? Would you spend 1300 EUR on a new guitar? What kind of new guitar would that money get you? Would it be better than a used DY? Do you like Jems or the DY in particular enough to make up the difference in price, if any?

At the moment, 1300 Euros is around $1750 USD which certainly sounds rather excessive for a DY, but I have no clue how rare they are or how much they go for in Germany.

Re: how much worth is a JEM 777DY?

the DY is pretty common I think next to the floral it was the second most produced JEM (I think the 7VWH might be challenging that now).

I own a VDY which is much, much rarer. I would say for a mint condition DY between £800 and £1000 is about right (I would guess this as being around the 850-1100 Euro figure).

HOWEVER, if it has wear on the fingerboard (dark patches) and chips etc pay no more than 800 Euros, also check if it has the old Edge trem. You can barter him down if it has as spares are not that easy to find.

If its a 1991+ it will have the Lo-Pro edge which is superiour. Also be aware the original JEM neck is much thicker and wider than the modern and it will have the original neck joint which VERY noticable at the 17th fret, be aware if you have small hands!

Also check the gallery here to make sure he has not changed the pickups/knobs etc/ Faded pickups is another battering point, I am lucky in that all 3 of the pickups on my VDY are exactly the same salmon pink colour.

Hope that is helpful to you

Re: how much worth is a JEM 777DY?

well....
that's the point. I love the quality and the design of jems.
Often they sound good 'cause of the carefully selected wood.
And - they look cool! Some jem models more - some less...
But in general I don't like a middle-sc-pickup and I don't like a pickguard on guitars - those reduce picking comfort (for me).
I own a RG Prestige 2620 which is near perfect. The basswood is a great sounding piece of wood - outstanding in comparison to other basswood-guitars I've played. This 2620 has DiMarzio Breeds in it.
And now I want a guitar that's different - for Rock songs, with PAF Pros or ToneZone in it. Basswood of course.
So I don't really need a JEM for it...

Yes, thanks! Very helpful!
It has the old Edge trem, which doesn't look that good (some rust). And of course not the AANJ. I hate it every time I play a strat or something... the old neckjoint isn't that comfortable...
Colours of pickups and knobs are faded, too.
And, the neck has lots of dark areas. Indead, I prefer rosewood or ebony.

Between all that and the pickguard/single coil thing, it really doesn't sound like this Jem is exactly for you...

1300e is about £900 if the 777dy is in good condition then its worth it,but if the neck is a bit beat up knock him down to 1100e 1000e
