How sacred is *the pink? - will I get flamed here for painti

I've got my heart set on buying a used Jem as my next guitar. *I'm not a collector, I'm a player.

i see lots of the pink ones on ebay. *I do a lot of fancy gigs and a pink guitar would not be appropriate - not to mention that I think they're really ugly and I'd feel like CC DeVille.

Would I be breaking some cardinal rule by putting a new paint job on it? *I was even thinking of buying one and having a "guitar-be-que" in hopes of making one like SV's 7-string in the FTLOG video.

Just curious to hear your thoughts and attachments to pink guitars

I don't think that refinishing a pink one is any crime, although I reckon there may well be FAR better alternatives to !JEM a la flambe!

Maybe hunting down a used one in a more suitable colour would be a better idea?

Ken, I've got the same idea. However, I doing it for the maple neck with pyramid inlays. I will have ATD swirl the body. As far as sacred, if you like the guitar but not the color, I say go for it! Good luck. * * --Ron

When my choices are pink, lime green or bright yellow, there aren't many alternatives. *I'm in the same boat as jono as somebody who likes the maple neck w/ pyramids. *I love the vines too - I put a bid down on the black/vines on ebay, but the reserve isn't met yet. *Maple is my first choice - ebony is my second and then rosewood a distant 3rd. but I can learn to live with it.

A BFP would be my first choice for guitars, but i'm not counting on an affordable one making itself available to me anytime soon

I can't believe how many LNGs have been on ebay lately - it's hard to believe they only made 777 of them. *Seems like half of 'em have been up there in the last month.

anyway, let the discussion continue----->

Ever since Kevan introduced me to the wonder that is the RG-Egypt, I've been playing with the idea of grabbing an affordable pink or yellow JEM with the pyramid inlays and using some left over "egyptian" pattern material we've got lying around to do a JEM-Egypt a la the Floral - that is, I'll strip the old finish and apply the cloth, then burst the edges in a dark, sandy brown-black and finish over the whole thing with about 20 coats of gloss. I know it would be a huge job... but my wife's a talented artisan, and the idea won't go away! *& it would be SO COOL

Hey Kenny Doe, if you find a decent SK that isn't faded, I'll trade you for my DY if your interested. *I've been contemplating painting to look like an SK or LNG anyway but if I can get the real deal it would save me some work.
