Question

How to tell a Jem 7vwh body from a Jem555wh body?

I was looking up some specs and noticed that the Jem 7vwh body is made of Alder with a super thin 0.5mm basswood veneer on the top and back, and the Jem 555wh is just made out of Basswood?

Are there any visible signs or marking to tell the difference or just look at the unpainted neck cavity to tell the wood difference. how do you tell the difference of the wood?

thanks for any help.

You should be able to tell if they are side by side by the trem cavities. The Jem 7vwh will be larger than the 555's.. Other than that im not sure.

Alder has a reddish tint while basswood is white. See here:

Also, here are some pics of my Kramer, which people tell me is made of alder:

The AANJ on the 555 isn't as pronounced, either. Take a look here- http://www.jemsite.com/axes/htm_features/neckjoint.htm

Also, if you can a/b them on the spot, the 7's body should be heavier...

The 7VWH probably doesnt have the veneer in the neck pocket or the trem cavity, so the visible parts of wood on a 7vwh will be alder and the visible parts of wood in the 555 should be basswood.

Neck pocket stamp ! probably the best give away !!

Does the 555 still have the angled trem routes ala trs systems ? that would be another give away, but the stamp wins it i reckon
