how to trade - Im stupid

I am not exactly sure which forum this belongs in , but I think it fits well here

I think i found someone willing to trade me for my UV777BK for a Jem7vwh....question I have...How can i watch my back to make sure I am not getting completely ripped off?? (i.e. They send a different guitar or none at all)...i really want this guitar but it seems like quite a risk.

Not to sound like a teacher or anything, but DO YOUR HOMEWORK.

Assuming that there is no chance you could meet this person to execute the trade I would recommend:

Get a telephone number - make sure it is valid. *There are plenty of resources on the internet which you can use to verify that this information is true.

Get a home address - I recommend against PO boxes, and will not ship to them. *Any ******
can get a PO box if they have cash.

Ask for a copy of a driver's liscense - match the name and address to the info he's already provided to you. *How can you do this? *Tell him to scan it and email you a copy.

Ask for references - hopefully it is someone who has established a reputable presence on the internet. *If it's someone from here on Jemsite, I am sure that one of us would be able to vouch for his/her character.

Lastly - if you're still queasy - ask him to split the cost of some type of escrow service - an established third party that will verify that the items which are being traded are legit.

Remember that chances are the other party is just as nervous. *Express your feelings, and I am sure you'll find a common ground from which you both can build a strong rapport.
