... what the one thing is that really bugs me about my UV777 in comparison with my BRMR. It's the frets!

The UV777's frets are huge in comparison, and I get hung up when sliding to-and-fro a whole lot more than I do on the JEM.

Am I imagining this, or has anyone posted similar complaints? Or should I just get the UV refretted and call it a night

Fret wire on a BRMR is w6015, on a UV its 6140.
I wouldn't change the frets, its expensive and maybe it looks not as good as before.

the 6105 frets on my jem are very smooth.
