i need a neck that's as good/better than a JEM neck
Hello, i've been viewing this site for about 1 year and I finally decided to start posting. I don't currently own a JEM but I own an RG1570MRB with
Dimarzio Evolution pickups
. I also own a Carvin Legacy 100W combo. I'm saying this just so I can fit in better with you guys.
what's that website where that guy makes his own JEMs (not ibanez). you can have on custom designed for you and for a lot cheaper than a JEM.
also, would I be able to use that neck on an RG body made by Ibanez? I'm thinkin' about buying a cheap RG prestigue (around 900) and upgradeing the neck, pickups, and doing a
locking stud mod
as well (though not any time soon...just wondering).
the RG prestigue necks are awesome but ibanez JEM necks are by far the best I've played because they have a such good fretwork. they are jumbo frets but they don't feel nearly as tall or sharp as the frets on my RG1570. they feel much more smooth but the overall quality is far greater. they're my favorite necks but I think that the overall quality of Ibanez JEMs are nowhere near 2000$ +.
the neck doesn't have to have vine inlay, although it would be nice. 400-500$ is max I would pay for the neck. i checked Warmouth but they don't make necks like that do they?

Have your guitar set up by a pro *cough* Rich *cough* and you will love it just as much, if not more than a JEM.

Re: i need a neck that's as good/better than a JEM neck
There are a few popular places where you can have a neck built for you. Check out the vendor discussion forum here:
http://www.jemsite.com/forums/f29/
Specifically,
Christopher Woods
and Legacy One (see edit) have gained popularity. ET Guitars is new around here and looks pretty promising!
I wouldn't recommend that you buy one, though. Nothing wrong with those vendors, but it seems like a fret detailing job would make you happy.
edit: on second though, you should probably avoid Legacy One. I won't explain why - this thread isn't for that - but read the threads in the vendor discussion forum.

A fret dress by Rich should make you cream your jeans, more so than the JEM frets.

really? but the frets are already way too tall compared to a JEM.
anyway, so i can just ship my guitar to him and he'll do a set up like that with a fret dress/level? how much will he charge?

Rich might not bother with just a setup if he's pretty busy. Though he might be the best man for the job, it might be easier to go local. email him regardless, but keep that in mind!

I went to Christopher woods. sounds like something i'd be interested in doing.
how's his work compared to a JEM? does he assemble even
floating bridges
?

From what I can gather, Chris seems to do quality work. Read up on the vendor forums.
He doesn't assemble bridges...you would have to supply your own. I don't really understand that question though..
