I owned both UV777BK and RG1527 Prestige

hi.

I own both UV777BK and RG1527 Prestige. Although they both are basswood body and maple neck, they sound differently from each other (even play unplugged). I prefer the sound of UV777BK more. (has more wood tone, more character, and more detail when distorted)

Question is, how can I upgrade my RG1527 to sound better or close to UV777BK ? Will pickup upgrade help? eg. if I put Blaze II in RG1527, will it sound same as UV777BK? or it will never sound as good due to inferior quality of wood?

Thx
Pumin

I would not bother to make both sound the same because each guitar can give you a certain kind of sound character.
Than if you happen to put a Blaze on that RG1527 than maybe you will get almost like the UV electronically but you still can't change the basic tone of it, IMHO.

The wood in the 1527 is not inferior to the UV. Even though they are both basswood, no 2 guitars will sound exactly the same (I had 2 UVMC that sounded quite different, even though it was the exact same guitar).

Changing the pups in the 1527 will definately improve its tone. I would try something different to the blaze. A couple of Seymour Duncan (I had them in a UV777PBK I owned, but I cant remember which pups I had, I beliebe they were a JB and a 59, but I cant tell for sure; what I can tell you is that they sounded much better than the Blaze).

Pickups are 90% of tone, the pickgaurd on the UV would make it sound alot different to the 1527 unplugged.
