I wacthed Vai Live tonight! and ANOTHER new Jem - Chrome Jem

Yeh

I saw a new Jem tonight!

Chrome Jem!!

It is a Jem with Chrome Body and Pickguard.
It doesn't look the same as the JS10th
Jem body(of course), only the top and the pickguard are chrome,the side and the back are black.

I didn't see it very clear,but looks like it has pearl body binding,the neck is same as v7wh but with a black headstock,silver Ibanez logo.

He only played 1 song with that
the chrome of it looks different than the chrome of the js10

it looks like has clearcoat on it

Yeah...Vai's got more custom JEMs and one-offs than he can count. *Just check out his website! * I wouldn't get too excited about it yet...my guess is that it's just a custom-job that he had Ibanez do for him. *When Vai says "jump", I'm sure the USA Custom Shop say "In what direction and how high?" * Interesting concept though-chrome-faced JEM...maybe he's got JS envy? *

i remember reading somewhere that he originally wanted the JEM10th in chrome, too, but ibanez didn't make it like that. don't ask me where i've read this, and i don't mean to sound like some rumor spreader, but i seriously can't remember where.

it seems that vai's been wanting a bit of chrome for a while now!

It's funny because you can always tell when there's a large influx of newbies loaded into the site.....(not a bad thing, we love ya guys....most of the time!)

After the JS10th run, Ibanez stated they would never do another chrome project again, as it was a royal pain in the ass to do it. They did try different approaches obviously, as the JS10th's aren't the *only* Chromeboy's aren't around. (JS2's...), so we can't say something like 'try again!', they already did.

Also, "Bad Horsie" was generally played with BH II (sometimes even the actual Bad Horsie, but that was usually used in "There's A Fire In The House"). Neville was a back-up that I believe was actually set-up in standard tuning. ("Bad Horsie" being CGCFAD.)

Looks like Steve and Ibanez are testing the waters with different JEM's. If you look on the original Wish List, you'll see a post by me saying I wanted a chrome JEM....that was like 3 years ago haha....I think it'd be badass....a clearcoat might be good over a chrome finish...something to protect it from smudging, if there were a way to do it and still get the gloss and appearance of a straight chrome finish.
