Re: ibanez JEM7VSBL or UV777BK?
I've been in the same situation twice, I got my DY over a uv7PWH and choose my HAM over a 777PBK.
Both were initially very tough choices, the first one probably more than the second and I feel I still have a 7 string itch...
With the DY I finally decided to stick to 6 strings as i was taking lessons at the time and didn't want to complicate things (for my teacher) I still enjoy my DY almost daily, if not by playing then for it's looks. I'm sure that 7PWH would've ment the same if I had gotten that.
If you are not familiar with 7s and have other considerations (band, lessons, amp compatibility) a 6 may be the best choice, but if you are comfortable on a 7 and have no other practical issues, the UV7 would give you something unique instantly, it can also help spur your (writing) creativity. On the other hand, you may also find yourself aimlessly chugging away on the bottom strings, just because that B is there.
Finally, when i first got my Jem, a friend of mine, a jazz player, was so impressed that he wanted an Ibanez too, so he got himself a new UV7BK (greendot) he traded it in after one month, as his small hand couldn't accomodate the 7.

Go for the VSBL, they are getting harder to find. You can always get a UV777BK on the bay or new. Plus, there are better 7s to get than that one.

Some people prefer the older style
neck joint
on the UV's - I'm guessing that's what Rick was trying to mention?

Well I guess I mean the Prestiges or J Customs and I think the UV777BK is the most boring of all the UVs. That's all.

At least not to me. It's kind of boring to others maybe because right now it's the only line of UV offered and maybe the Ibanez guys are plain too lazy to make a few more line up of UVs for the mass market.

Tough choice. Naturally, i'd say UV but I really like the VSBLs, always have. I see more UV777BKs than VSBLs. I'd get the VSBL, then get a UV.
